Setter/Right-Side Hitter
About Morgan
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
As a setter, I focus on giving the other side of the court. I focus on are they double blocking my middle, are they blocking cross or line, where is open and available to swing, is libero sneaking in and cheating in to cover a setter dump to the middle, or is the middle jumping with me. These are all questions I ask myself during games. I also try to not play in patters for the blockers to see.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I would say my mentality is to just be a DOG. Every time I step onto the court, I know that there is purpose in every rep or in games my goal is to make the other team respect me offensively and defensively. Outside of volleyball, I am a pretty outgoing person who loves to get to know people or try something new.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
I am currently not involved in any clubs, but throughout my recent middle school years I have been on honor roll each year. If my current high school gave these awards l am sure I would still be a part of honor roll.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I would say I have developed great leadership skills in the past few years. I have been a captain for two years in both club and school volleyball. My 7th grade year, I sat back and watched my team lose time after time due to not having a coach, but my 8th grade year I stepped up, coached my team, and helped us get to the semifinals. I also have a true passion for serving others.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
For the past 3 years, I have typically been on teams with girls that don't care about winning, don't care about getting better, or they just don't take it seriously. As someone who puts in a lot of effort to improve and grow on the court, this was very frustrating. But this year I had coaches who saw me, poured into me, and helped me grow. They taught me that all that matters is my effort.
What type of college are you looking for?
I would look for a program that isn't just volleyball. I would love to be part of a program that cares about each athlete, a program that the girls like each other, and just a program that takes it seriously but at the end of the day they just have fun.
