About Nyla

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am aggressive at the net focusing on quick attacks with a strong arm swing. I make smart reads across the net to plan how and where I will attack. I make quick adjustments if I am not able to effectively kill the ball due to opposing defense. I read the opposing setter well to best position myself and my teammates for blocking. I am agile, confident, and coachable.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am focused on the court and in the classroom. I am super competitive but I always put my team first. I love hyping up my teammates and giving 100% no matter what the scoreboard says. I am constantly working to improve my skills and mindset. I take feedback seriously because I know it helps me grow. Whether I am going after a tough ball or pushing through a tough workout, I give it my all.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Yes, I am a part of the Medical Science Academy (MSA) and a member of the Fellow Christian Athletes (FCA) club at Valencia High School.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have learned how to stay calm and focused under pressure and bounce back from mistakes quickly. I work hard to lead by example and stay positive in tough situations. Communication has become one of my biggest strengths and I have improved reading the game quickly to make smart plays. I have become a more confident player and am excited to keep growing as I work toward playing in college.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

During my 2024-2025 club season, I got injured doing Tae Kwon Do, which took me off of the court for 3 months. During my recovery time, I learned many new skills that weren't impacted by my injury. I learned how to be a supportive teammate and learned more about the game of volleyball as a whole. I also used this time to strengthen my relationships with my teammates and coaches.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college known for both strong medical and volleyball programs. I would prefer a campus that is medium to large sized, and a safe surrounding area, where I will be able to walk off campus to locally to eat and shop.
