At least Riley made our class of 2026 rankings at number 115. She lists at 5’10” but she doesn’t bring an extraordinary jump. What she masters is the ability to use the blockers hands to create a kill. Sometimes it might be best not even to go up to block her. On a tight set she went straight up with one of her hits, glancing off the blockers fingerss while the ball landed 40 to 50 feet out. Fortunately, the officials were able to see the touch.
An extremely high volleyball IQ to play front row. In the games I watched 540 only played her three rotations. To date, she is the only player yet to commit on the 18 team but that should change very soon from what I hear.

Another 540 Academy player to watch. Her name did not appear in the top 150 until I saw her play at the Volley by the James tournament in Richmond. At 5’10” she brings height and a strong physical strength to the left side position. She debuted in our rankings at number 75. She played at Caroline High where she won first team honors in the Battlefield District. Just one of many players to watch on this 540 Academy team.

Riley surprised with her left side play. She played for Caroline High where she earned first team honors in the Battlefield District and second team all region. Her outside play helped Club 540 win the 17/18 Division at the Shamrock. I first saw her play at Volley by the James where her outside play led Club 540 to a second place finish. They lost to Blue Ridge in the finals falling short in the third set 16-14. Blue Ridge ranks as one of the top 100 clubs in the country. Club 540 ranks as the top team in the Old Dominion Region. They qualified to play in the National Division for the junior Nationals in Las Vegas but still have qualifiers to compete in to up that level. Riley deguts at 75 in our class of 2026.

are the two other left sides. For Caroline High School she earned first team honors from the Battlefield District and second team honors for the Class 4B Region. At 5’9″ she is a smaller pin hitter but she puts some good velocity on her swings. Club 540 won the 17/18 open. Her kill in the third set of the gold medal match put Club 540 within one point of the championship at 14-9.
