Akers has taken more swings offensively this season. She’s been able to make an impact because she played outside hitter during club season. Akers has great control on her swings. Akers continues to keep teams out of system with her serving. Akers said playing outside in club helps her know when to take different cuts based on the defense.

Akers was primarily a defensive and serving specialist for the Braves last year. Akers is taking more swings this year trying to give Grant County balance with 82 kills thus far after only recording 10 last year. Akers sends tough crosses from the go routes and tips balls to the middle to keep defenses guessing. Akers takes quality out of system swings. Akers still gives the Braves sound first touches and serves.

Akers saw some varsity action as a freshman then make a big impact for the Braves this past fall helping them to the 8th Region semifinals for the second straight season. Her serving makes a difference for the Braves. They go scorching all over the place. Akers also established herself as a nice passer in the back row. Akers had 162 digs and 51 aces this past fall, helping Grant County go 19-14 and make a third straight appearance in the 8th Region Tournament.
