About Sam

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

When I’m on the court I have a job to do and I do everything I can to make sure as a team we are ready to play, I’m constantly hyping my teammates up when they make an awesome play. I also have noticed that I don’t get in my head often, when I make a mistake. At times I get temporarily frustrated but these mistakes are what I learn from, knowing this helps me refocus on what’s going on.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I’m an intensive player. I am constantly cheering, yelling, and laughing with my teammates on the court. No matter the situation we are in during the game I am always working to lift everyone’s spirits. Off the court I am more quiet but still go out of my way talk to everyone and try my hardest to make everyone feels included no matter what.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Academic Honor Roll 5-10th grade

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I am someone that is always trying to bring my team together. I get to know my teammates and what they like so I can do something special and unexpected for them. I try to demonstrate leadership through my actions. Both on and off the court by keeping a positive attitude, coordinating team activities, and working hard in practice and of course games.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

This season so far (2023-2024) has been a real struggle for us as we have had to overcome two concussions, a broken elbow, numerous knee problems, our starting setter of three years getting an ACL tear, and only 5 out of 8 of us are from the original roster. This season isn’t what we were hoping, but it’s given us lots of perspective and experience dealing with adversity.

What type of college are you looking for?

One where the girls can get along and are forgiving and accepting of their teammates. I also want to be on a team that can be just as intense as I can be and truly care about volleyball. I also want a team that is full of just all around good people with mature mindsets on and off the court.
