About Shelby

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would describe my gameplay as fearless and selfless. When I play I'm playing for the glory of God after that I'm playing for the girls on the court next to me. I know it is not about me it is about giving God the glory and the betterment of my teammates.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

A brief description of my personality would be focused, happy, willing to work, and friendly. I'm willing to stay after practice if it means I can excel in my game. But in that, I know I show respect to each person I encounter. I am fiercely dedicated and determined, I refuse to quit.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Outside of Volleyball, I am involved in international Baccalaureate, Avid, I've been Student Council Vice president, I have received Academic All-district, Straight A honor roll, and A/B honor roll, Along with student of the year.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I've been voted captain a lot in my volleyball career. But 14u was very interesting, when I got voted captain a lo of animosity came with this position as to where years prior things ran very smoothly. I learned to cope with that hostility and channel it. My Bible says to show love to those who hate you, so that's what I'll do! I'm using what I learned for this year since I've been voted captain.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

13's club season brought a set of problems I had yet to face. Being coached by a person who directly saw me as less, and frankly disliked me for no reason, my errors were highlighted and publicized while others were not. My teammates were praised for regularly disrespecting me. I didn't cower down I trained, I moved to Skyline where I became a 6-rotation player. It taught me to be mentally tough.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking to play on the highest level. I want to make it big D1 now that doesn't mean I wouldn't go D2 but my absolute dream is to go D1. Not only to make it to the NCAA tournament but win it.

Listed at 5’9″, Huckaby looked much taller on the court because of her long arms. She showed great potential at the net, getting off the floor well, making contact with the ball at a very high point and making good choices with her swings. With a player of her profile, we tend to focus more on offense, but I was probably more impressed with what I saw from Huckaby on the backcourt. Besides displaying great ball control to perform digs, she also had a great hustle to chase shanked balls and recovered a handful of them by storming after them, showing great reaction speed and a very competitive mindset.
