About Shelby
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
As a right-side hitter, I focus on shutting down opposing hitters with disciplined blocking and solid court awareness while remaining coachable. I play with intensity and aim to be a reliable presence at the net and a consistent scoring option.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I would describe my mentality as competitive, focused, and resilient. I stay composed under pressure while finding any way possible to elevate myself in every aspect of the game. I take pride in my coachability and my ability to stay consistent. I'm someone that is willing to do the work that doesn't show up in stats and I love staying disciplined while doing it.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
I have been involved in the following clubs/organizations: Beta club, Workforce Industry Training (WIT), Future Farmers of America (FFA), and UIL.
I have also received the following awards: A-Honor roll for the past three years, outstanding achievement in science, and Acedemic All-state.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
Through volleyball, I have developed a strong sense of leadership and teamwork skills. I have had the great opportunity to lead by example during tough matches by staying calm and focused. I’ve also really focused on learning how to adapt my communication based on who I’m playing with, especially in fast-paced or high-stress moments.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
The most significant challenge I’ve faced throughout each season has been simply showing up.
It may not sound like a traditional challenge, but it’s just as real and just as demanding as any major obstacle. Waking up early, going to bed late, eating for my benefit, getting my workouts in and doing all of it with 100% effort, every single day is by far the hardest part of the process.
What type of college are you looking for?
I'm looking for a college where I can compete at a high level that allows me to continue to grow as an athlete and a person. I want a team that is committed to working hard and staying disciplined, as well as a coach that pushes players to their best on and off the court. Academically, I’m looking for a school that challenges me and offers strong support for student-athletes.
