Sloane Menzel is a young libero whose game is becoming increasingly connected to leadership.

Communication, hustle, defense, and out-of-system play all contribute to her confidence, but the growth she described this season extends beyond technical skills. She has become more comfortable speaking up, helping hitters identify attacking options, and working alongside setters to keep the offense organized when plays break down.

That growth is especially meaningful because serve receive was once an area she considered a weakness. Through consistent work and attention to detail, it has become one of the most improved parts of her game. The confidence that comes from seeing that progress is evident throughout her reflections.

Her favorite camp moment was not a highlight kill or a flashy dig. It was a hustle play. After a teammate shanked a ball, Sloane chased it down, kept the rally alive, and watched her team score the point that ultimately won the game. The moment reflected exactly the type of competitor she appears to be, someone who believes every ball is worth pursuing.

The biggest takeaway from UA Next was realizing she belongs. Competing alongside athletes she had previously looked up to helped reinforce that she is capable of performing in those environments too.

As she continues developing, Sloane’s focus remains simple. Keep growing, keep learning, and continue building confidence through experience. For a young libero already embracing leadership responsibilities, that trajectory is exciting.
