About Sophia

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I'd describe my gameplay as high energy with a strong focus on positioning and the fundamentals. I take pride in being consistent and making the smart plays at the right times. I focus on delivering accurate passes and sets to put my teammates in the best position to succeed on the court. I like to communicate on the court and I'm always looking to improve. I play at a high level on the court.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I'm very team-focused and always try to bring positive energy and encouragement to my teammates. I don't give up easily at all and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to help my team succeed on/off the court. I spend a lot of time working on my skills outside of practice because I want to keep getting better and becoming even more consistent. I'm competitive, coachable, and I love the game.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I'm involved in choir and perform in the school musical every year. I'm also a three-sport athlete (volleyball, basketball, and softball). I was honored to receive a Jerry Award for my musical performance and was invited to perform at the Jerry Awards show in Madison, WI. I also attended our church's youth group every Wednesday night as well as regular church service on Sunday's.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

One of the biggest things I've developed is being a supportive and team-first type of player. After a knee injury before my freshman year, I wasn't able to play, but I still wanted to be a part of the team. I stepped into a team manager role for both JV and Varsity basketball, helped however I could and stayed fully involved. That experience taught me about leadership and staying positive.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Before my freshman season, I suffered a knee injury that required surgery and kept me off the court. I stayed committed to my recovery by attending my physical therapy appointments to get back on the court as fast as I could. That experience made me mentally stronger and more motivated. I was proud to return to the court and compete again with my team.

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm looking for a college where I can be pushed both academically and athletically. I want to compete in a program that values hard work, teamwork, and constant improvement. Being part of a close team and a strong campus community is important to me. I'm excited to find a college where I can grow as a player, as a person, and also feel like I'm part of a family.
