There is a lot to like about a freshman opposite producing 14 kills in a five-set match against a ranked opponent. Valerie was Milton’s leading attacker in the box score and did it while playing one of volleyball’s more demanding front-row roles.

What makes the performance encouraging is the situation. This was not a comfortable early-season sweep where a young player could settle slowly into the match. Denmark kept applying pressure, the match extended to five and swings became increasingly meaningful. Learning how to remain aggressive when points carry more weight is part of the transition into high-level varsity volleyball.
