About Yasirah

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I’d describe my gameplay as aggressive, smart, and supportive. I’m always trying to make quick decisions, hustle for every ball, and help keep my team’s energy up. I’m competitive but also focused on keeping a positive attitude no matter what.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I’m hardworking, coachable, and motivated. I’m the kind of person who’s always trying to get better, whether it’s during practice or by watching film. I care about my team and I’m always ready to put in the work to help us succeed. I love the sport so much that at times I may get too excited during games.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Not yet, but I’m definitely open to getting more involved outside of volleyball in the future. Right now, I’ve been focused on school and training, but I’m always looking for new opportunities to grow and challenge myself.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

As a volleyball player, I’ve learned how important communication and teamwork are. I’ve developed strong leadership skills by encouraging my teammates during tough matches and helping newer players feel confident. I’ve also been involved in community clean-up events and team fundraisers, which have taught me the value of giving back.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was recovering from a pulled calf muscle during Nationals. It was frustrating to sit out and watch, but I stayed involved by supporting my team from the sidelines, learning more about strategy, and focusing on my recovery. It taught me patience and how to contribute even when I’m not on the court.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college with a strong volleyball program, good academics, and a team that feels like family. I want a school where I can grow as an athlete and a student, with coaches who care about player development on and off the court.
