Top Seeds Dominate Class A District Tournaments: Wednesday’s Postseason Round-Up
It was an uneventful Wednesday night in high school volleyball, which was good news for the top seeds in Class A.
The only upset in the Class A district finals came when Lincoln Southeast knocked off Lincoln Southwest in the A-7 final, but both teams have qualified for the state tournament because the other top six seeds all won.
Papillion-LaVista got 14 kills from Steph Gaston and 32 assists from Dani Prusha in a sweep of Lincoln Northeast for the A-1 championship. In the A-2 final, Marian got 13 kills from Emily Bressman and a career-high 11 from Ashtynne Alberts in sweeping Millard South.
Freshman Sophie Hendrix led Papillion-LaVista South with 11 kills as the Titans got a sweep of Kearney for the A-3 title. In the A-4 championship, Millard North got 13 kills from both McKenna Ruch and Elise Baumann and 38 assists from Izzy Lukens to sweep Omaha Northwest.
Jordan McCormick had 10 kills and Ashley Bush added nine for Millard West in its sweep of Lincoln North Star for the A-5 championship. Abigail Noel had 13 kills to lead Lincoln Pius X to a sweep of North Platte in the A-6 championship.
Lincoln Southeast's win over Lincoln Southwest was the most dramatic as the Knights held on for a 23-25, 25-17, 25-13, 25-27, 20-18 victory. Melanie Brecka led Southeast with 17 kills and Alaetra Long added 16 for the Knights while Kate Dean had 15 and Jennie Hammel had 48 set assists
