There were multiple matches where teams would take at least one set from each other which makes for a competitive day in the gym. This class is one I had an extra close eye on looking for players who may have been a little under the radar. Through watching, I was amazed at the overall athleticism and once again, the balance through the all teams in the quarterfinals. With a month to go in the club season, these athletes are preparing for one last go around for their high school seasons which will make for an entertaining Fall. Here are a few new prospects from Sunday’s AAU Super Regional at Milwaukee Sting.
Claire Bresser – Milwaukee Sting 17 White – Waupun – Middle Blocker
Bresser is a 6’1 middle blocker that is extremely athletic for Milwaukee Sting 17 White. Bresser’s ability to move laterally and her quick jumping ability puts her as someone who would be a solid pick up at the next level. Does she have the size of the big Division 1 middle blockers? No, but she does get to the outside to close the block. Bresser can also make adjustments in the air to where the set is and can score points with her offense or her blocking at the net.
Darragh Dixon – Milwaukee Sting 17 White – Waukesha West – Setter
5’10, left handed, Dixon has the tools of a setter who can distribute and score. Dixon runs a 5-1 for Sting and can be very offensive when the opportunity presents itself. The potential that Dixon has at the college level is very promising. She helps her team in multiple ways and has so many tools to score with and lead her team the right way.
Ryan Ferch – Wisconsin Junior 17-1- Arrowhead – Outside Hitter/DS
Ferch is an undersized outside hitter, but was definitely the X factor in Juniors victory over Motion. The tools that Ferch has is very comparable to a beach game. She is a solid passer which puts her as a prospect for a college defensive specialist, but as an outside hitter she was hitting sharp angle shots, but was tooling the block and scoring points in a hurry. A solid serve receiver, Ferch is someone that will continue to push Arrowhead with their powerful hitters to break through to the state tournament this season.
Jessica Huber – Revolution 17 National – Mukwonago – Libero
Revolution (RVA) is on the rise as a club at all levels. They have solid athletes and great coaches that will continue to compete with the top clubs in the Badger Region. Huber is the libero for the 17s and will be looking to compete for the libero position at Mukwonago after the graduation of Marquette recruit, Katie Schoessow. Brea Pape was also a top player for Revolution who was able to play at multiple front row positions for RVA.
Jennifer O’Keefe – Milwaukee Sting 17 Black – Lake Country Lutheran – OH/RS
Brooke Anderson of Lake Country Lutheran may have graduated, but Jennifer O’Keefe will be back for the defending Division 3 champions and will be a major point scorer for the Lightning this year. O’Keefe can play any front row position and was featured on the right side and in the last match against Sting Gold playing on the outside. O’Keefe has a high contact point
Grace Peyron – Milwaukee Sting 17 White – Burlington – Right Side
Add another to a long list of talented athletes who will be returning for the defending state champion, Burlington Demon. Peyron is 5’11, left handed and provides a huge outlet offensively and a strong block defensively. Burlington has solid talent at every position and is extremely balanced. Peyron will be one of the go to players and with a solid first two contacts from Sam Naber, Maddie Berezowitz, and All-State setter Kaley Blake to make the offense run.
Erin Powers – Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold – Mukwonago – Libero/Outside
Powers was an outside hitter along with Alayna Jansky on the Mukwonago state tournament team last season. An all around six rotation player, Powers has the ability to be a solid libero as well for 16 Gold. Powers has a game similar to Jansky where she jumps extremely well, contacts high, and can mix in a few different shots as well. Once again, a player who can play multiple positions in the front and backrow (minus being a middle, however an undersized athletic middle is always capable of doing damage!).
Elise Schneider – Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold – Arrowhead – RS/MB
Schneider can play on the right side or she will switch with Kiara Reinhardt and play middle if need be. Schneider is so strong, very physical, but also athletic where she can adjust offensively and defensively to help her team. Much like her high school and club teammate, Aubrey Hamilton, Schneider is very consistent and doesn’t get too high or low emotionally, but is very dependable. For someone with the strength of Schneider at the 16s level, it would be tough to beat. Her ceiling is very high with already a solid foundation of athleticism and fundamentals.
Taylor Seney – Wisconsin Juniors 17-1 – Oak Creek – Outside Hitter
Seney is the prototypical outside hitter that is long, athletic, and a high reach. At 6’1, Seney is able to hammer home a cross court shot. That is her bread and butter and tough to stop when she is in system. Seney does not play backrow and has the libero from Wisconsin Lutheran, Morgan Dunn come in. If Seney can develop into a full six rotation outside which she very well could, she will be a prospect on the rise with the ability to defend and score even more points.
Jenna Weinfurt – Milwaukee Sting 17 Black – Catholic Memorial – Outside/OPP
Weinfurt has an aggressive approach and a violent swing. Weinfurt will be a key player for Catholic Memorial who will look to regain the gold ball after losing in the semifinals last season. At 6’0 tall and an athlete who plays above the net, Weinfurt is a prospect who is on the rise after a strong season of training with 17 Sting Black. She can play on the left or right side depending on the match up and can be used to score points offensively or defensively on either pin. With her athleticism and aggressiveness, add some shots to her game, and she is right up there with some of the top outside hitters in her class.
Tori Zagorski – Motion 17 Blue – Germantown – Right Side
A high reach, and a long swing, Zagorski brings a different dynamic to the court with the left hand on the ride side. Germantown has a few athletes who are very offensive players along with libero Amber Bischel and will look to get back to one of the top teams in her conference and in the section. Zagorski is deceptive and can also put up a big block as well.
