SubscribeThe Class of 2020 may be one of the most impressive when it comes to setters. Of the top 5 players in our rankings, three play the setter position. Here’s a closer look at the top 5 setters in the 2020 graduating class.
- Celia Cullen, 6-1, Brighton/Legacy: Despite being a 2020 player, Cullen has been playing with the Legacy 18-Elite team this club season, replacing the 2017 Miss Volleyball, Erin O’Leary. Her size and length make her dangerous at the position, as she can attack as well as assist. Cullen was a Michigan State commit as a freshman and she comes into the fall of 2018 looking to lead Brighton to new heights as a program. In the 2017 season, she had 344 assists with 315 kills, 201 digs, 114 aces and 51 blocks. Her performance landed her on the PrepVolleyball.com Sophomore 79 Highest Honorable Mention list. She also was Second Team All-State in Class A.
- Alexa Rousseau, 6-3, Bloomfield Hills/Legacy: Like Cullen, Rousseau was part of the Sophomore 79 Highest Honorable Mention List after a 2017 season with Bloomfield Hills that saw her rack up 833 assists, 282 kills, 155 digs, 94 aces and 59 blocks. She was also All-State Honorable Mention for her efforts. The Northwestern recruit is one of the tallest and longest setters you can find and she sets for the loaded Legacy 16-Elite club team.
- Jordyn Gates, 6-1, Grand Rapids Christian/MVA: Gates had a tremendous 2017 fall season while leading Grand Rapids Christian to the Class A quarterfinals. She tallied 1,206 assists with 311 digs, 48 aces, 89 kills and 21 blocks. Her efforts earned her Second Team All-State honors and a spot on the PrepVolleyball.com Sophomore 79 list. Currently playing for MVA 16 National Black, Gates is committed to play with Arkansas in college.
- Kaylee Maat, 5-10, Hudsonville/FaR Out: Maat just knows how to find points for her team. In the 2017 prep season, Maat had 1,291 assists. She also tallied 285 digs, 56 blocks, 49 kills and 43 aces. She was an All-Region pick in Class A and was named High Honorable Mention in the Sophomore 79. In club, Maat is a setter for FaR Out 17/18 Gold, a team that is having a strong year with a young roster.
- Elizabeth Norris, 5-10, Corunna/Michigan Elite: A setter for Michigan Elite 16 Mizuno, Norris actually had a great year as a middle blocker for Corunna in the fall. She had 609 kills, 89 blocks, 471 digs and 33 aces. She had All-State Honorable Mention honors while leading Corunna to a regional championship. She also joined Cullen and Rousseau on the Sophomore 79 Highest Honorable Mention List. Her play as a hitter for Corunna has only helped her setting instincts and makes her a more complete player.
