Continue ReadingNow the 15s and 16s will take their turn at the AAU Super Regional held by Milwaukee Sting this weekend. Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold starts out the tournament as the number one overall seed followed by Milwaukee Sting 16 White which is a scrappy bunch that has found a way to win time after time, Motion 16 Blue finished in the top ten of the Super Open GLPL 16s league, and River City rounds out the top four.
A match up to watch will be between River City vs. Milwaukee Sting 16 Black as well as Midwest Penguins 15 Black vs. Milwaukee Sting 15 Black in pool play. This will be essential when it comes to setting themselves up for bracket play which will be on Sunday. Having the top spot in the pool can make a big difference for the day two match ups.
Here are some under the radar prospects to talk a look at this weekend at the Milwaukee Sting Center:
Lauren Sitter – Motion 15 Blue – Germantown – Middle Blocker
Class of 2021
Sitter will be attending the High Performance Camp this summer at UWGB and Germantown is starting to develop some strong, young talent that will be coming together this Fall with Sitter being one of them. Sitter is an athletic middle, which has become one of the staples of MVP which has athletic, pin to pin middles that can do a bit of everything at the net. Sitter will be working with her setter, Katelyn Lefler who is a setter/right side that is a high impact player offensively and defensively for MVP.
Lakyn Graves – Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold – Sussex Hamilton – Middle Blocker/RS
Class of 2021
Graves is on the talented Sting 15 Gold team and will be on the Hamilton High School team that has a group of extremely athletic underclassmen that will be a team to keep a watch for in the Milwaukee area. Sting 15 Gold has middles with Camryn Lukenbill and Tatum Catalano which provides for plenty of depth which 15 Gold will need over the course of the next three weekends with NJC next weekend, and Sky High Pre-National the weekend after.
Morgan McCormack – Milwaukee Sting 16 White – Kettle Moraine – Middle Blocker
Class of 2020
McCormack is one of four Kettle Moraine athletes on 16 White which has just found ways to win and win again in some top tier tournaments. McCormack is another talented middle from the Sting and Kettle Moraine program which also has Hailey Grochalski and Christina Roofe (17 Gold). With the solid ball control of 16 White and the setting of Isabelle Schauer they have solid point scorers across the net. McCormack also is able to put up a solid block and find ways to score in transition.
Ashley Sharkus – Milwaukee Sting 16 White – Oconomowoc – Defensive Specialist/Libero
Class of 2020
A defensive specialist is one of the more underrated positions on the court. So many times I’ve heard coaches say, “We are just one DS away from being a really solid defensively”. Sharkus adds that extra dose of defense for 16 White which has a great crew of athletes who can ball control. Sharkus will be playing for Oconomowoc who has the likes of Tayha Pozorski and Caitlin Crawford in the backrow. They will be looking to reload after the graduation of defensive standouts Paige Jaeger and Amanda Garvens.
Sarah Mattes – Motion 16 Blue – Greendale – Middle Blocker
Class of 2020
Mattes saw varsity action last year for Greendale in their state tournament run and will be looked to carry more of the offense this year. Mattes and her teammates on MVP 16 Blue have had an extremely successful year so far after with a top ten finish in the Super Open division of the Great Lakes Power League. Mattes is very quick and dynamic, quite deceptive. She is quicker than most middle blockers across the net from her which allows her to score offensively and defensively with her block.
Nicole Pozorski – Milwaukee Sting 16 Black – Mukwonago – Setter/Right Side
Class of 2020
Pozorski is one of the top dual threats in the Class of 2020 with the ability to set and hit, a well trained all around player. Sting 16 Black will be looking to get back on track and this tournament will be one where they can look to compete and advance deep into Sunday afternoon. Pozorski will be a key player for Mukwonago along with Erin Powers and Alayna Jansky which has players with all around skills to be among one of the top Division 1 teams to compete with this Fall.
Amanda Viel – Milwaukee Sting 15 Black – Burlington – DS/L/OH
Class of 2021
Viel is an all around player that has the ability to play any position. There are times where she has played outside hitter for Sting Black. Most of the time she can been a defensive specialist which again has been a key position for the 15s/16s this year. Having someone who can serve receive consistently is so essential to the offense and the ability to side out. 15 Black has been competing at the premier level and has been winning some open tournaments as well. Viel is part of a solid Class of 2021 for Burlington which will be the next crew to carry the tie dye tradition.
Kayla Lewinksi – Midwest Penguins 15 Black – Sussex Hamilton – RS
Class of 2021
Lewinski saw some varsity action for the Hamilton last year and will be looking to be one of the go to players for Hamilton this year which has a large crew of young talent. A high motor athlete who is very smart and aggressive, Lewinski is one you have to respect on the outside with the outsides of MWP and Alexis Boling in the middle. Boling was named to Illinois Prep Volleyball’s All Tournament Team at the Super Open Great Lakes Power League. MWP was also the champion of the Badger Region Qualifier in early March where they will compete in the National Division at USAV Nationals in Detroit later this summer.
