The heavy arm of Hayden Kubik, has helped this team prepare for playing in a tough open field in Detroit. Yes, you heard that right, there is another Kubik coming up the pipeline. Hayden, like her older sister, Madi, is a huge threat on the outside and is on track to bypass her sister in height. CIS finished their incredible season going 4-5 at nationals in the Open division finishing 29th overall. I know there is lot more to come from this well coached group.
Iowa Rockets 14R also has had an incredible run this year. They were seeded 5th overall in the National division coming into Detroit on day 1. Having a high seed always puts a target on your back and 14R was challenged from the first point. They ended up in a 3-way tie in their first pool taking 3rd, still putting them in contention for gold. Day 3 they played more like themselves, taking their 3 team pool and putting them in a good position for their challenge match where they beat Circle City 14 Purple for the 2nd time this week. The 8 team gold bracket on the last day was fierce, but 14R played calm and collected and won their quarterfinal match with ease, 25-19, 25-16. They would face Vegas Aces next in the semifinals. The Aces were too much for 14R and they fell to future champions in 2 sets. Iowa Rockets 14R finished 3rd overall in the 14 National division and ended a very memorable season for the players, parents and coaches.
Six Pack 14s coached by Liz Plum, also had a great showing this season and in Detroit. Six Pack was in the National division as well, seeded in the middle of the pack. They had a tough first pool, where they finished 2-3 and taking 4th. They redeemed themselves in their next pool winning the pool of 3 and putting them in a stronger position for their final day at nationals. Six Pack 14s finished 29th out of 45 teams and concluded a great season!
