The 45th AAU Girls Junior National Volleyball Championships are in full swing down in Orlando at the ESPN Wide World of Sports and Orange County Convention Center.

The younger age groups are reaching their conclusion and the Legacy Volleyball Center had some strong showings this week.

 

15 Open

The Legacy 15-Elite volleyball team went 3-5 through three days of pool play, earning wins over Nebraska Juniors 151 (25-13, 25-16), Tri-State Elite 15 Blue (25-21, 25-22) and Volley Top 15 (25-17, 25-21). That landed 15-Elite in the Ruby bracket, where they met up with VCNebraska 15 Elite. Legacy fought hard, but lost in three sets 25-23, 23-25, 15-11.

 

14 Open

Legacy 14-Elite had a great showing at the AAU Junior Nationals, reaching the semifinals of the Gold bracket. In pool play, Legacy posted a 6-3 record, earning wins over WVBA 14 Adidas (25-20, 25-11), Club V 14 Ren (25-15, 25-21), MAVA 14-Select (25-15, 25-17), Tri-State Elite 14 Blue (26-24, 25-17), A5 Mizuno 141 Suzanne (25-22, 14-25, 15-11) and Club V 14 Ren again (25-22, 25-20).

That moved Legacy into the Gold bracket for a chance to win the Open championship. They opened the quarterfinals with a three-set win over Borinquen Coqui 14 Piro. Legacy dropped the opening set 25-20, but fought back to win the second set 26-24 and then finished things off with a 15-12 victory in the third set. In the semifinal, Legacy couldn’t get past OT 14 S. Felix V, as OT ran by for a 25-8, 25-15 victory.

 

13 Open

Legacy 13-Elite had a strong run in Orlando as well, reaching the X. Legacy went 5-3 in pool play to advance to the Gold bracket on Wednesday. They earned pool play wins over K2 13 Adidas (25-18, 25-21), WPVC 13 Elite Black (25-23, 25-19), Asics Team Indiana Elite (25-18, 25-10), Top Select 13 Elite (25-16, 23-25, 15-8) and Borinquen Coqui 13 (25-18, 25-27, 15-9).

In bracket play, Legacy began things in the quarterfinal with a 25-20, 23-25, 17-15 nail-biter against Asics KIVA 13 Red. That advanced Legacy to the semifinal, where it faced Vaqueras 13-1 Freddy. It was another three-set battle, but Legacy was ultimately defeated by Vaqueras 25-17, 16-25, 15-10.

 

12 Open

Legacy 12-Elite recorded a 2-6 record in pool play before moving on to the Consolation Division in bracket play. Pool play victories came against The Academy 12 Elite Bobcats (25-19, 18-25, 15-6) and Summit 12 Blue Elite (25-15, 25-9).

In bracket play, Legacy faced Wildfire 12 Nike Albert and were defeated in two sets, 25-22 and 25-18.
