3A Solon Spartans Have the Depth

[caption id="attachment_18694" align="aligncenter" width="311"]<a href="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Rachael-Nelson.jpg"></a> Photo Credit: Yourprepsports.com[/caption] <p>The Solon Spartans are looking to make an impact this next season, hoping to capitalize on the depth of a team that is returning 11 of 17 players.</p> <p>Leading the team are seniors <strong>Rachael Nelson</strong>, <strong>Abigail Smith</strong>, <strong>Taylor Moore, </strong>and <strong>Kate Benzing</strong>. Nelson (2^nd Team East Division All WaMaC) is comfortable running a 5-1 but is an impressive RS hitter with a dominant swing. Smith is a versatile player with the potential to play 6 positions, can hit out of the middle and pins, and is a presence in the backrow with digs and attacks. Libero Taylor Moore led the team with 445 digs and 40 ace serves (3rd in WaMaC East), and 93% serve efficiency last season; she is an aggressive player who owns the backrow. Benzing is a middle hitter that led Solon with 90 total blocks last season making her 3rd for total blocks  East Division WaMaC and 9th overall in 3A. </p> <p>Other returning players include pin hitter <strong>Lauren Schrock</strong> and middle hitter <strong>Katie Yi</strong>. The team is looking for both to be clutch hitter/blockers, building on their contributions from last season.</p>
