Continue ReadingIn only their second year, Liberty is predicted to be still very young but also very strong. The junior class will continue to guide the way, but it is the new freshman class that will make a tremendous impact. Freshman, Sydney Woods, will most likely come in and start right away in the L2 position. Woods strengths are her heavy arm, great court awareness and moves well defensively. Also, twins Carlie and Gabbie Schroeder will help anchor the back row and will most likely see court time as freshman.
LeeAnn Potter will be the go to for the Liberty Lightning on the outside. Potter leads the team in kills, attempts and digs. Potter brings a lot of experience to the team, playing on a high level club team and also beach volleyball. Assistant Coach Allie Hutcheson describes Potter as, ” A fiery athlete that we always want on the court. She has a lot of ball control and high IQ that will help lead us to success.”
Piper Koski and Addie Schmierer will be a steady force the back row. We are not sure who will end up at the libero position, but either way the passing will be on point. Koski and Schmierer both are coming off successful club seasons and are playing some of their best volleyball. Koski is a great all around defensive specialist, but her strength comes in her serve receive. Schmierer will bring the quickness and intensity to the back-row.
Olivia Slattery will also be a huge asset to this young team. Slattery’s size will add to both the offensive and defensive efforts.
We predict the Lightning will finish 10th in the vey competitive MVC.
