Continue ReadingThe lengthy class of 2021 OH that has a presence on every court she steps on has made her verbal commitment to play at Creighton. Eve Magill is not only tall but a very fluid player for her size. Eve is the #3 overall recruit in Iowa behind the very talented setter Phyona Schrader (Notre Dame commit) and tremendous libero Sydney Dennis (Iowa commit). The class of 2021 is shaping up to be one of the best.
Creighton went 26-7 last year and 16-2 in the Big East. Creighton comes in this year ranked #13 in the preseason AVCA poll.
Magill plays club for Six Pack and high school for Xavier under Head Coach Austin Filer. When talking to Austin about Magill’s strengths here is what he said, ” Magill is one of those kids that is always pushing herself, her competitive spirt drives others around her.” Coach Filer’s first encounter with Magill was at a junior high camp, where he then started doing individual lessons with her. He could tell there was something special back in 7th grade and continues to coach her, now at the Varsity level. When Magill came in last year to a very solid varsity Xavier team her role was limited but her enthusiasm was not. She ended up being a great practice player and eventually saw time towards the end of the season on varsity. This year will be a lot different for Magill as she is expected to be a large threat for the powerhouse Xavier HS team. Filer adds, ” Magill stays committed, she has all the intangibles you look for in a starting outside and to add she is 6’5″.”
Magill started this recruiting process very early on, with her tall stature and elite athletic ability she stood out to many across the country. Magill commented about the recruiting process, ” This process has been a lot of fun, I have met many new friends from all over, we still talk and keep up on each others progress. My favorite part has been getting know so many people from coaches to players and learning many different techniques.” Ultimately, Magill chose the Creighton Bluejays and for several reasons. Creighton came in late to her process but little did Magill know at the time they had everything she had been dreaming of. Magill talked to us about why she chose Creighton, ” High caliber volleyball, strong academics, incredible connection with the coaching staff, and ultimatley she said it just felt right.” As Magill enters her sophomore year of high school she hopes to make it to the state championship game at the US Cellular center. “We have such a great coaching staff at Xavier, my teammates are incredible and I just truly enjoy the team aspect of the game. I look forward to spending my time with them and helping win a state title.”
We look forward to watching Magill achieve all of her goals at Xavier and make a large impact at Creighton!
