CR Kennedy, Pleasant Valley, North Scott, Iowa City West, Bettendorf, and CR Prairie rounded out the competition. Iowa City West just came off a huge win against City high but go-to outside hitter, Claire Overton, was out with an injury for the tournament on Thursday. It was really nice to see all of these teams with underclassmen making big plays. These athletes really made an impact for their teams on Thursday:
Kora Ruff, Freshman Setter, Pleasant valley: Kora is the youngest Ruff sister, both Kayla and Kelsey were both starters for PV and have gone on to play collegiately. Now it is Kora’s turn to shine and she is doing just that. Her high IQ of the game and beautiful hands makes running the offense for PV look easy.
Abby Feldmann, Junior Setter, CR Kennedy: Feldmann stood out instantly. She spreads out the offense making it difficult for teams to play defense. What we liked most about Feldman is how effective she is with the setter dump.
Maddie Allison, Senior Libero, North Scott: Allison was steady in the back row and has great leadership skills. She was all over the court frustrating teams with her scrappy play.
Rachael Kilpatrick, Senior MB, CR Prairie: Kilpatrick was all over the place, getting kills from every position in the front row. Kilpatrick is jumpy and has a heavy arm making her kill efficiency very high. Super fun player to watch!
Ally Grothusen, Senior MB/OH, Bettendorf: Grothusen taking on a new role this year playing 6 rotations on the outside for Bettendorf. Grothusen is physical, smart and extremely versatile. The University South Dakota commit is definitely someone to watch this season.
