Part 2 of the All Tournament Team from the Charger Rally will feature some of the top players from the final four teams. This was a crash course for Arrowhead to meet River Falls in the championship, but that wasn’t without a tough battle for the Warhawks with state powers Waunakee and DSHA. I have a feeling there could be some potential rematches with these teams come tournament time. Kimberly got on a hot streak Saturday with three set wins over Oconomowoc and Wisconsin Lutheran before losing to River Falls in the semifinals. Here is Part 2 of your All Tournament Team from the Charger Rally.
MVP
Aubrey Hamilton – Arrowhead – Junior – Outside Hitter
Committed To Notre Dame
Hamilton looks and plays the part of one of the best players in the state so well. She brings a presence to the court that is cool, calm, and collected – and then she attacks and sends a rocket straight down. Hamilton is quite the five tool player who is definitely the type to make an instant impact when she steps on campus at South Bend. She always seem to be there at the right moments in the championship match and against Waunakee in their three set battle not only with the big kill, but key pass and solid in serve receive as well.
Emily Bannit – River Falls – Junior – Outside Hitter
Committed To Loyola
There were plenty of eyes on River Falls coming into the Sting Center this weekend as they had plenty of talent to show. Starting with Bannit, an outside hitter who plays six rotations and extremely explosive to score from anywhere. With a ferocious approach, touching ten feet on her swing, she is able to hit over the block and right into the middle of the court. The next time, she’ll do the same and roll shot over the defense, or go line. With a combination of athleticism and volleyball IQ, Bannit makes others better around her.
Halle Olson – River Falls – Junior – Outside Hitter
The 1-2 punch of Bannit and Olson is tough to stop when there is always an outlet on the pin. If Bannit is the lightning then Olson is definitely the thunder with the power she brings from the pin as well as a strong block. Olson is able to hit the cross court angle while also being able to go down the line or hit high hands.
Anna Myklebust – DSHA – Senior – Pin Hitter/Setter
If Myklebust was a basketball player we would be talking about how she is a triple double threat. In volleyball terms, I would compare that to someone who can set, swing, and block. Myklebust does a little bit of everything for DSHA who plays such a clean style of volleyball. They don’t make errors, are very efficient and extremely balanced. Myklebust is definitely the go-to for the Dashers, but she is so quietly effective for this team who has really snuck up on the field.
Sarah Maslowski – DSHA – Senior – Libero
Maslowski is the next in line of DSHA liberos who have always been some of the best in the state. With over 250 digs so far this season she is the backbone to the defense. For DSHA to be successful that all starts with a clean first contact and Maslowski is doing just that for the Dashers to put away teams with their efficient play.
Emily Larson – Arrowhead – Junior – Libero
LIGHTS OUT! The best way to describe Larson’s play this past weekend at the Charger Rally. From rally saving plays to just consistent play all around in the backcourt to keep the Warhawk offense in system. Larson is definitely on the rise in the Class of 2020 for liberos. The pins of Aubrey Hamilton and Josie Salzman for Arrowhead are always an outlet, but Arrowhead is pretty lethal out of the middle too with Katelyn Sesolak leading the way.
Maggie Cartwright – Kimberly – Senior – Outside Hitter
Committed To Arkansas
With the future Razorback in the lineup for the Papermakers they are never out of a game. Senior, Maggie Cartwright plays so high and is extremely athletic from anywhere on the court. As one of the best passers and go to players on the pin she just terminates. Kimberly had a HUGE day on Saturday defeating Sheboygan North, Oconomowoc, and Wisconsin Lutheran. They will be at the Sprawl this upcoming weekend for another round of tough competition against the best teams in the state.
Courtney Pearson – Kimberly – Junior – Outside Hitter
Pearson came on strong last year as a Sophomore and found herself playing in the state tournament for the Papermakers. With the combination of Cartwright and Pearson on the outside makes for quite the duo similar to Bannit and Olson for River Falls. Pearson is also a basketball player for Kimberly who are always one of the top programs for basketball and volleyball. A solid, all around athlete who still has two years left with the Makers.
More Notables:
Anna Wolf – River Falls – Sophomore – Middle Blocker/Right Side
Committed to Minnesota
Wolf plays so high above the net. Against Cedarburg I thought for sure there was a ball just heading over the next as a freeball while she jumps up and slams it down. How do you defend that? Each time I watch her play, she just seems to get better and more confident.
Anna Holland – Waukesha West – Sophomore – Libero
Committed to Seton Hall
Holland is just the epitome of poise on the court. She reads extremely well, knows where to be in the right spot, and does such a great job of covering in spots for her hitters that she always manages to get a touch to keep the ball in play.
Maleah Howe – Oconomowoc – Freshman – Outside Hitter
Just a Freshman, Howe is already demonstrating her athleticism and developing a strong connection with setter, Tayler Alden. Fundamentally sound, Howe is able to put a heavy swing on the ball, but also sees the court extremely well. Will be fun to watch her progression throughout her career.
Maddi Kealy – River Falls – Junior – Setter
Kealy is what makes the offensive weapons of River Falls just work. She makes the smart play in the right situation and has such a smooth release on the ball. A solid defensive player in the backcourt and at the net, she can be offensive too. A definite college prospect on the rise out of the Class of 2020.
