<p>Marshalltown hosted Solon, No. 6 (3A) Waterloo Columbus, and No. 5 (4A) Waverly-Shell Rock at the Roundhouse Thursday night for the Marshalltown Apgar Varsity Volleyball Tournament. Solon walked away the champions and Waterloo Columbus took 2<sup>nd</sup>.</p>

<p>Marshalltown’s <strong>Erica Johnson</strong> is a leader for the Bobcat’s. The junior outside hitter is a solid and consistent six rotation player. Teammate <strong>Autumn Finch</strong> is a young middle with a lot of potential that will be a key player at the net this season.</p>
<p>Waverly-Shell Rock’s <strong>Jessica Jacobs</strong> is a game changer offensively and defensively in the front row for the Go-Hawk’s. Jacobs is a smart hitter with a heavy arm. She reads the setter well and puts up an imposing block.</p>
<p>Waterloo Columbus has a pair of impressive hitters in junior <strong>Avery Kroll</strong> and senior <strong>Sydney Schultz</strong>. Libero <strong>Kate Shannon</strong> played the best defense in the gym on Thursday. The senior picked up impossible digs and her serve receive was on point. The Sailor’s <strong>Emily Surma</strong> is a talented setter who runs an intelligent offense. She plays with soft hands and has great court sense.</p>
<p>Junior middle <strong>Katie Yi</strong> is an impact blocker for Solon who explodes vertically, shutting down her opponents on the block. Outside hitter <strong>Lauren Schrock</strong> is only a sophomore but is the top hitter for the Spartan’s, when she gets on top of the ball look out! Senior setter <strong>Rachael Nelson</strong> had some really nice jump sets and some killer serves.</p>
