Claire Anderson runs a great offense for the MVA 18 Elite team. She is a left handed, 5’8” setter from St Clair High school. Her team has experienced their success due to her ability to spread the ball between her top hitters: Sydyney Aber, Sarah Johnson, and Sara Zins. The 18’s will be participating in the Twin Citie’s Regionals National bid on March 3rd. They will also be strong contenders in Indianapolis later in March for the Nike MEQ Indianapolis.
Mari Whiteford is on the 16 Elite team. She is 5’5” sophomore who will graduate from Andover High School in 2021. She played mostly JV this past high school season but with senior setters Mikaela Whiteford and Sydney Huberty both graduating she will likely step into a starting position. Whiteford and teammates should have a strong weekend at the Dells Showcase on March 1-3 as long as they can all stay healthy.
The future of MVA is in good hands too with setter Josie Fenske. She is the primary setter for the 14-1 squad. Most recently this team finished first in silver at NCR President’s Day Festival. They are still a very young and inexperienced team but have been showing strong improvement with each tournament. Josie is only a seventh grader but has strong setting instincts. Ball control is a work in progress for any 14’s team but Fenske is able to chase down the ball allowing her hitters with opportunities to attack.
MVA is known for their disciplined style of play in all the positions; their setters demonstrate strong execution of various skills, sets and tempos. With a new facility, the Minnesota Volleyball Academy, and their setters, are ready for any opponents they encounter this season.
