For so long, these athletes have heard it pertained to others in their program, but now it is their time, they are the Seniors, the top. For teams who are able to make deep postseason runs, a Senior class is one that can lead the way, but that type of leadership doesn’t start in October come tournament time. It’s the leadership demonstrated in the summer months during workouts, open gyms, camps, and summer leagues. Tonight, at the Prep Dig Summer League at the Milwaukee Sting Center, there will be athletes heading into their final year of high school volleyball and their Senior leadership will be heavily relied upon. Who are some Seniors who will be ready to lead the way at the Prep Dig Summer League?
Nikki Censky – Germantown
Hannah Brown received plenty of swings last year for Germantown while Censky was always a solid option to go to, however the role for Censky might be magnified a bit this season. The 5’10 Senior who is a middle blocker, can also take some swings on the pin as well. She will be relied upon to score points, but also be a big defensive presence at the net. A part of the MVP (Motion) 17 Blue club team this past season, Censky’s athleticism will really be a spark for Germantown this Fall.
Katie DiRaimondo – Manitowoc Lincoln
DiRaimondo will be leading the Ships this year after having well over 400 kills as a Junior in 2018. The Tennessee Tech commit will be a six rotation outside who is a threat to score in every rotation. A powerful attack, but also the ability to block and pass makes her a complete all around player. The FRCC title race is wide open this year with Lincoln being one of the favorites.
Emily Wendt – East Troy
East Troy will have to replace the likes of Brianna Scuric, Isabelle Martino, and Mati Jakscht who were a big part of their state title team in 2018. Wendt will be a returning setter who is also a threat to score on the second contact. With over 1,000 assists last year and over 100 kills, she will be looking to have a big Senior season and get back to the Resch in a loaded sectional which includes Lakeside Lutheran and Lake Country Lutheran.
Rylee Vaughn – Lake Country Lutheran
Vaughn was a big time player for LCL last year in what was a repeat of a state championship. From serve receive to playing left back, keeping the Lightning in system, she was a gamechanger. She will be back with fellow Senior Alyna Ritter who will be returning as the setter. LCL will be in Division 2 last year after being the 2018 Division 3 state champions.
Gianna Feld – Kettle Moraine Lutheran
Feld has had quite the past year, taking command of the backrow for KML in their run to a state title runnerup and also playing a big role on Milwaukee Sting 17 Black this year. She will be back as libero for a very athletic Charger team. Feld has committed to Marian University in Indiana.
The Middle Duo of Cedarburg
Maddie Barber and Kiara Reinhardt will both being playing in the Big East next year with Barber heading to Villanova and Reinhardt going to Creighton. The duo will be hoping to lead Cedarburg deep into the postseason this year, but the work is starting now. With a talented all around cast, these two will be the leaders offensively and defensively. If Cedarburg can stay in system, they will be dangerous and tough to stop.
The Ocon Crew
Oconomowoc was a team with a lot of question marks last year and by the end of the season they were a team nobody wanted to play. This year, the Raccoons will have a really powerful backcourt of three Division 1 athletes with Caitlin Crawford (South Carolina), Tahya Pozorski (Jacksonville State), and Ashley Sharkus (Eastern Illinois). Their passing really allows All State setter, Tayler Alden (Northern Iowa) to attack on the second contact or dish to the plenty of options in all front row positions.
Sarah Schrader – Hamilton
Schrader has developed into one of the top six rotations in the Class of 2020. The Milwaukee commit is a high efficiency type of player who can really take charge whether she’s in the front row or backrow. Solid in serve receive and a shot maker on the pin, she will have quite the team to lead this year. With plenty of returners, the Chargers will be one of plenty contenders to come out of their section with Arrowhead, Brookfield Central, DSHA, and Cedarburg.
Hope Sholten and Natalie Dulmes – Sheboygan North
Dru Kuck, the decorated libero from North and now Kansas State Wildcat, will not be in the backrow for the Golden Raiders anymore which leaves room for the likes of Sholten and Dulmes to lead with defense. North will have Junior to be, Lizzie Binder, a solid point scorer on the pin, but with solid defensive play, it will still keep North in the hunt in the FRCC with Manitowoc Lincoln.
