16 teams started in separate locations on Friday, but it was brought to a climatic finish at New Trier on Saturday. New Trier and Loyola have met in the past in meaningful matches and Saturday was no exception. Host New Trier held off a tough Loyola Academy team, winning the Summers End Tournament by the scores of 25-23, 23-25, and 25-21.
Both teams had outstanding performances, especially in the middle. There was a strong battle at the net between New Trier’s Maggie Bodman (2020, MB, Sky High VBC, Navy) and Loyola’s Jackie Yau (2020, MH), Wildcat Juniors, VBC) The difference in the match was strategic serving, with New Trier rattling Loyola’s serve receive during the match. Britt Soudan, (2020, L, Adversity VBC, Indiana) anchored down the New Trier defense on the road to the tournament title.
Glenbard South triumphs over Oak Park-River Forest for third place, 23-25,25-17, 25-10
Hamilton (WI) def. Glenbard North 25-23, 25-12 for fifth place
The seventh place match saw Hersey def. Lakes 25-19,22-25, 25-6– 5. Kati Kaburov (2020, OH, Boston College) added 39 kills on the weekend.

Warren finishing in ninth place with a win over Niles West 25-21, 25-20
11th place: Deerfield over Ago 25-15, 25-16
13th Place: Niles North squeaks by Maine West, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18
15th place Wheeling over Highland Park 25-19, 20-25, 27-26
