- No one should be satisfied at 1-1.
All three teams came to battle as dominance was not found on this day.
Normal University def. Sterling 25-18, 25-18
Sterling def. Belleville Althoff 25-18, 25-18
Belleville Althoff def. Normal U-High 25-22, 22-25, 25-23 - University’s win over Sterling could be the key takeaway today.
With both teams in IHSA 3A, the win puts Normal (University) as a leader to win state. Sterling is not as consistent as they have been in the past despite having a setter who controls the action. Belleville Altoff Catholic defeating University proves they can compete against tough teams, however, in the 4A division their in a tough sectional, which means a long road to make it to states. - Players to watch:
Name, Yr, Ht, Pos, High School, Club, College Commitment Alayna Crabtree, 2020, 6’2, OH, Normal University, Illini Elite VBC, Boston College
Leading the team with 267 kills and a 4.2 kills per set average, Alayna is the on who University looks to when they need a point. This weekend was not any different.
Karinna Gall, 2020, 6’1, MB/OH, Altoff Catholic, Rockwood Thunder VBC, Indiana State
Not only does she have 380 kills, 5.4 kills per set, but Karinna has 40 service aces, tying her for tops on the team. This team is a senior laden team that plays well together, but crunch time Karinna is definitely the teams finisher.
Alexis Rodriguez, 2021, 5’4, Sterling, Sports Performance VBC, Nebraska
There is no doubt she is not only one of the best liberos in the state of Illinois, but in the nation as she was a Gold Medalist on the U18 World Championship team! Always has a great reach and excellent speed, Alexis is just one of the reasons that Sterling will be a force come tournament time!
