State Tournament: Notre Dame among eight teams to advance

<p>Notre Dame is among the eight teams remaining in the 2019 KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament. The Pandas blanked McCracken County in the state tournament's opening round. </p> <p>A look at the last four matches in the opening round of the 2019 KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament follows. </p> <p><strong>Notre Dame 3, McCracken County 0:</strong> The Pandas shut out 1st Region champion McCracken County 3-0 in the KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament on Friday. </p> <p>Notre Dame won 25-6, 25-15, 25-19.</p> <p>Kenley Way and Anna Long combined to lead Notre Dame at the net, delivering 10 kills and nine kills, respectively. </p> <p>Grace Ward added 34 assists while Emma Grace recorded 10 digs in Notre Dame's victory. </p> <p><strong>Owensboro Catholic 3, Campbell County 2:</strong> Determined 3rd Region champion Owensboro Catholic managed to edge Campbell County 3-2 in the opening round of the KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament on Friday.</p> <p>Owensboro Catholic triumphed 25-27, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 15-8.</p> <p>The two teams combined to drop in 54 kills. </p> <p>Cassidy Towery led Owensboro Catholic with 16 kills. </p> <p>Pacing 10th Region champion Campbell County, Hope Russell landed 16 kills of her own. </p> <p><strong>Henry Clay 3, West Jessamine 0:</strong> Henry Clay handled its opponent in the opening round of the KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament, shutting out 12th Region champion West Jessamine 3-0.</p> <p>The champion out of the 11th Region, Henry Clay prevailed 25-13, 25-10, 25-16.</p> <p>Taylor Trammell dropped in 12 kills while Sara Shadwick posted 20 assists for the Devils.</p> <p><strong>Corbin 3, Rowan County 1:</strong> Corbin pulled away to beat Rowan County 3-1 in the final match of the KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament's opening round.</p> <p>The champion out of the 13th Region, Corbin won 25-15, 20-25, 25-21, 25-14.</p> <p>Leading Corbin to the victory, Chloe Adams drilled 18 kills and Mickayla Coppock recorded 37 assists. </p> <p><strong>Looking ahead:</strong> The schedule for the second round of the KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament on Saturday is as follows: 10 a.m. - Greenwood vs. Notre Dame; 11:30 a.m. - Assumption vs. Henry Clay; 1 p.m. - Notre Dame vs. Owensboro Catholic; 2:30 p.m. - Corbin vs. Mercy, 2:30 p.m. </p> <p>The semifinals of the KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament are set for 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. </p>
