Six MEQ Indianapolis Day Two Notable Performers

The war of attrition in terms of playing about nine to 10 games per tournament can wear players out starting this time of year. However, it didn't seen to effect these six on the second day of the Mideast Qualifiers at the Indianapolis Convention Center on Saturday.    Simpson (pictured) took sound swings on the outside for 16-1. She's reliable when the team needs big points. She is not afraid to tip over blockers for huge points. Simpson is especially tough on one sets. She forms sound double blocks with teammates and makes quality out of system passes.     Cecil does what she can trying to influence balls at the net. Cecil has nice form on her blocking attempts and an impressive wrist snap when taking swings. Cecil also uses a sound platform on first touches.     Waller takes great advantage of her size and athleticism. She rises high above the net, gets on top of balls and slams balls to the ground on slides and other routes. She's extremely effective on solo and double blocks. Waller is coachable and has great IQ at the net, making sure not to reach over before she can legally play balls. Waller said she's been working on reading cues from the setters when working to put balls down.     Pendley handles her role well in balanced offenses at Dunbar and for 17 Elite. She has good precision on her crosses and makes precise off hits to the three zone. Pendley takes both hard and soft swings from the back row. Pendley does not get discouraged if the first attempts do not go down. She makes good in-air adjustments to tip balls if needed. Described as kind, competitive and caring by teammates and close ones, Pendley uses a sound platform on defense to make precise touches. She makes great adjustments to keep balls alive on setovers.     Jenkins goes up strong and pounds had crosses to the two zone on go routes, using a nice vertical jump and touch. Jenkins puts pure power into her hits. Jenkins is very energetic on the court. Jenkins said she developed that high vertical jump through plyometric training when she was younger. She is also consistent with working out.     Cox brings sound all-around play to the 16 Elite Black team. Cox hits from the back row and can pound overpassed balls off blocks for big points. She is an aggressive server and sound passer. Her versatility is a big reason for making the American Volleyball Coaches Association Watch List Award and made All-Region second team her first season playing high school volleyball. Cox won the region most valuable player honors this past fall with 397 kills, 73 aces and 318 digs.
