Our tour of Indiana has just begun. Any list of pockets of volleyball in Indiana would be incomplete without mentioning Muncie. Listed below are our top five class of ’21 players from the Muncie area that remain uncommitted.

[player_tooltip player_id="85678" first="Jenny" last="Morey"], 5-7, DS, Munciana 18 Samurai (18-1), Yorktown High School

This list starts and ends with the best defender on the best 18s team in the state. Mike Lingenfelter, the Samurai’s coach, doesn’t just add a player to his roster; his intent is on using you thoroughly not only in training, but in match play as well. Jenny far and away the best serve receiver, the best defender and the best all-around floor general in this class in Indiana. Consider her choice #1 and #1A.

[player_tooltip player_id="85698" first="Bella" last="Dearinger"] 5-10, S/RS, Munciana 17 Pandas (17-1), Delta High School

She sets from the back row, attacks from the front row, and has fire and competitiveness for days. Over time, Miss Dearinger has developed every aspect of her game to fit whatever any coach needs of her, and it is finally paying off. Without a doubt, if you’re looking for a do-everything setter, Bella is the person to sign. She should NEVER come out of the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="85700" first="Jaylynn" last="Dunsmore"], 6-0, MB, Munciana 17 Pandas (17-1), Yorktown High School

Heavy-armed, fast-footed, and always available to attack, Jaylynn comes from a winning high school program and plays for a winning club program. She’s not a yeller like her teammate above, but no doubt she’s a gym rat that will not waste time by "keeping it in play". Miss Dunsmore puts balls to the floor. Period.

[player_tooltip player_id="85709" first="Nicole" last="Wilkinson"], 5-10, MB/RS, Munciana 17 Pandas (17-1), New Castle High School

Already a two-time volleyball state champion in high school, Nicole has slowly moved her way up the depth chart at Munciana; she was on 16-2s last year, and now cracks the lineup on 17-1 this year. She’s a no nonsense workhorse that does well in front of the setter. She doesn’t take up as much space as Jaylynn above, but is fast enough to keep up with the bigs and goes pin to pin to defend with the best. She’s earned her spot on the top 17s squad, and her improvement is rising.

[player_tooltip player_id="85733" first="Helen" last="Beach"], 5-6, DS, Munciana 17 Aztecs (17-2), Burris Laboratory School

When you say Burris, you’re talking about THE Mecca of volleyball. Indiana’s single-class volleyball legends were born and bred under the tutelage of the Shondell family----yes, THOSE Shondells. Down the street from Ball State University, the Owls know their volleyball. Helen is no exception, and is the libero for both her high school team as well as for Pancho Alvarez and the Aztecs. Serve receive is steady, defense is exceptional, and always seems to be in the right spot. It won’t be long before Helen is noticed as a true floor general.
