Our tour of the state of Indiana continues for the class of 2022. In this article, we touch specifically on kids from the South Side of Indianapolis and the first county south, Johnson County.

Johnson County’s perennial champ and regular semi-state qualifier always manages to pump out regular volleyball studs. The class of 2022 is no exception, as CG’s top attacker from last fall, [player_tooltip player_id="85806" first="Katie" last="Egenolf"], led the way as a sophomore. She spent her freshman year as a middle, and has moved to the pins to make things even tougher for her opponents. Jump touch is close to ten feet, she’s fiery, hyper competitive, and an absolute terminator from both the front and back rows. No doubt that this kid will be on a winning roster once she’s in college.

[player_tooltip player_id="85811" first="Emma" last="Halter"], 5-5, DS, Team Indiana Elite 16 (16-1), Roncalli High School

One of three additions from Roncalli, Emma is, far and away, the best defender and passer in this class. She’s run the varsity as their libero since her freshman year, and will definitely be running the show soon enough on a college roster. I have watched Emma single-handedly take over matches defensively, as she is fully capable of doing the entire job herself. Consider her the captain of all defense and another coach on the court.

[player_tooltip player_id="85830" first="Emma" last="O’Connor"], 5-6, DS, Circle City 16 Purple (16-1), Mooresville High School

OK, OK, I cheated. Mooresville is neither in Johnson County, nor is it due south of Indianapolis. However, Miss O’Connor is worth mentioning on this list. Even though she’s a three-rotation player for Scott McQueen’s club team, she runs the defensive show for the Pioneers, which is normally a volleyball doormat. One thing I’ve always noticed about "this" Emma; regardless of if they’re winning by a bunch or getting crushed in a match, Emma’s effort and attitude stay the same. Steady as she goes. Sounds like my kind of DS.

[player_tooltip player_id="85844" first="Olivia" last="Murphy"], 6-0, OH, Academy 16 Yeti (16-1), Roncalli High School

This. Kid. Can. Thump. Travis Fuller’s team always seems to have that kid that just terminates, and Olivia is the example. She’s close to jump-touching at ten feet, and with a new high school coach coming to Roncalli in the fall, I would love to see her development continue.

[player_tooltip player_id="85851" first="Sarah" last="Lezon"], 5-11, MB/RS, Team Indiana Elite 16 (16-1), Roncalli High School

I listed Sarah as a middle first because she primarily plays middle on her club squad. And this young lady is terminal. A thump to either corner or a perfectly placed shot when triple blocked (yes, there’s footage of her being triple blocked at the Triple Crown in KC in February), Sarah is fully capable of doing whatever it is you need on your squad. This is another kid that, with the right high school coach in place, will make her training complete. I hope she’s used in multiple spots on the offense in the fall, since it is obvious that she’s capable of holding her own in the middle against the best.
