Who You Gonna Call?!? CLASS OF 2022! – Part 1 Around the Midwest

June 15 has been the date with a star on it for athletes who are finishing their Sophomore year. They will now be able to communicate with college coaches in regards to their recruiting and potentially their future with that particular college program. Some of these athletes in the Class of 2022 started the process, but in 2019, they had to go quiet for over a year (May 1, 2019 started their quiet period). They were able to send coaches information, video, and updates, but coaches were not allowed to respond in regards to recruiting. Here are a few Class of 2022 athletes that would be wise to give a call to. They may be new to rising on the radar and the best is definitely heading their way. I’ll be looking at plenty of athletes I have seen play live and give some insight to their game as the recruiting process will start to heat up come June 15.

[player_tooltip player_id="24844" first="Alyssa" last="Borellis"] - Setter - Michigan Elite (MI)

Savvy, smooth, Borellis was starting to pick up some major momentum through Triple Crown, connecting with a high powered offense that also included to 2022 prospects in [player_tooltip player_id="24846" first="Ava" last="Brizard"], [player_tooltip player_id="24870" first="Serena" last="Nyambio"], and [player_tooltip player_id="24861" first="Kimani" last="Johnson"] of Michigan Elite 16 Mizuno. Borellis has the IQ, all around skill, and a high ceiling of potential to be a great steal at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id="24842" first="Josie" last="Bloom"] - Libero - Legacy (MI)

Just solid all around when it comes to everything a libero needs from her serve receive to taking pace off the ball and all the intangibles of making her presence known as the commander of the backrow. Bloom has always played at a high level and will be one where she will make positive touches throughout her career.

[player_tooltip player_id="79234" first="Ava" last="Reynolds"] - Outside Hitter - Club Ignit Select (IA)
[caption id="attachment_94792" align="alignright" width="300"] Reynolds[/caption]
Reynolds is coming on extremely strong in the Class of 2022. She was one of the key outside hitters for Club Ignit Select 16 Blue and their run to a Triple Crown Title. [player_tooltip player_id="17322" first="Hayden" last="Kubik"] on that team is the top prospect in Iowa out of the Class of 2022, but in order for this team to win the way they do it takes balance and pure grit. Reynolds provides the perfect punch from the outside where she has a high contact point and is extremely athletic with how she can reach and score points multiple ways.

[player_tooltip player_id="85810" first="Ella" last="Bostic"] - Setter - Munciana (IN)

Bostic is long, athletic, and just has a knack for running the show as a setter. I was able to see her at Triple Crown most recently and she is so smooth and efficient with her movement towards the ball. She can hold the middle and push it to the outside, run the quick tempo, and also take it herself. There are plenty of positives about her game that are immeasurable and so exciting. Will be fun to see where her recruiting journey takes her.

[player_tooltip player_id="85831" first="Kimora" last="Whetstone"] - Middle Blocker - Munciana (IN) (#4 Title Photo)

Speed doesn’t slump. And Whetstone has plenty of speed as she fits perfectly in the high tempo of the Munciana offense. At 5’9, Whetstone may not tower over anyone on the other side, but she can seal a block and work incredibly hard in transition to run a shoot or attack of one foot with a slide. Such an electric and exciting player to watch so would bring a ton of athleticism to the gym.

Watching [player_tooltip player_id="17325" first="Kora" last="Ruff"] of @IowaRockets and [player_tooltip player_id="37531" first="Abby" last="Schomers"] of @NebraskaElite set is an art form. Great hands and always in position.
— Chris Fitzgerald (@PrepDigChris) April 20, 2019

[player_tooltip player_id="37531" first="Abby" last="Schomers"] - Setter - Nebraska Elite (NE)

I first saw Schomers play at NLQ last year for her 15s team which was such a dynamic and exciting group. Silky smooth setter with her hands and movement, she was so versatile. This past fall I saw her play right side for Skutt Catholic out of Omaha, one of the top high school programs in the country. Once again, showing her athleticism with how she could attack and block. With Schomers, programs will be getting an all around athlete who has been well trained and so versatile she can do so many great things in the gym from a variety of positions.
[caption id="attachment_82467" align="alignright" width="349"] Shadewald[/caption]

[player_tooltip player_id="90597" first="Aida" last="Shadewald"] - Outside Hitter - Madison Sting United (WI)

Shadewald is a hidden gem that will be no longer. Watching her play live once, she just captivates the crowd with her smooth style of play and her raw athleticism. A six rotation outside who plays on the Sting satellite squad out of the Madison area. She tore up the high school season and was picking up lots of momentum heading into March where I definitely see her stock rising high when play resumes with her ability to score points in so many different ways.
