A shout out to Chris Fitzgerald for this awesome article idea. A hypothetical scenario, but a fun one. What if Oregon were to put its best-rising seniors together, to create a powerhouse 17U team? Here are my nine picks for an 17U All-Star team.

Did I mention all of them are uncommitted? College coaches, have at it!

Outside Hitter: [player_tooltip player_id="91205" first="Emily" last="Warmenhoven"], 5’10”, OH, West Linn High School, Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy

Warmenhoven came back her sophomore season with a vengeance, being the only sophomore returner, helping the Lions finish fifth in 6A State tournament this past season. She was awarded Three Rivers Second Team All-League for her play. With an insanely quick arm swing, she utilizes this power as a dominant hitter in both the front and back row, and is a steady defender making her a standout six rotation player. Last season she played for Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy on their 16-1 National team.

Outside Hitter: [player_tooltip player_id="91206" first="Ashli" last="Edmiston"], 5’8", OH, Wilsonville High School, Athena Volleyball Academy

Edmiston had a strong sophomore season, helping the Wilsonville Wildcats finish second in the 5A State tournament. She is a dynamic all-around outside hitter with a great swing she uses in both the front and back row. She was awarded Northwest Oregon Second Team All-League for her play. Last season she played for Athena Volleyball Academy 16-1 Gold.

Outside Hitter: [player_tooltip player_id="91210" first="Kaitlynn" last="Peterson"], 5’11", OH, Tigard High School, Athena Volleyball Academy

Peterson had a breakout season for the Tigard High School Tigers, as their dominant, six rotation, outside hitter. With her long and athletic stature, she many angles, and shots in her toolbox. She can play both outside and right side with ease. She was awarded Three Rivers Second Team All-League for her play. She is also a competitive softball player, competing with Tigard Crush. Last season she played for Athena Volleyball Academy 16-1 Gold.

Libero/Defensive Specialist: [player_tooltip player_id="91211" first="Maisie" last="Alexander"], 5’6", DS, Jesuit High School, Athena Volleyball Academy

Alexander had a stellar sophomore season, competing with the Jesuit High School Crusaders. As a freshman, she made their JV2 team and was determined to compete at a higher level. So she put in a lot of work during the offseason playing for MAC Juniors 16-1 as their libero. As a sophomore, she made the jump to varsity. Even though she had a few defensive specialists ahead of her she was able to work her way into the starting line-up and eventually became their libero. With her incredible hustle, all-out mentality, and consistent serve receive, she helped the Crusaders to another State title. She was awarded Metro First Team All-League. Last season she played for Athena Volleyball Academy’s 16-1 National team.

Libero/Defensive Specialist: [player_tooltip player_id="91214" first="Hannah" last="Nguyen"], 5’5", DS, Jesuit High School, Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy

Nguyen had a solid sophomore season, playing the back row rotation for one of their outside hitters. Nguyen totaled 239 digs on the season she averaged 2.6 digs per set. With her athleticism, hustle, and competitive drive, she helped the Crusaders win another State title. She was awarded Metro Third Team All-League as well as given the Team Hustle Award. She has also been playing with USAV the past few years and made the Girls Select Continental National the last season. She played for Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy’s 16-1 National team.

Middle Blocker: [player_tooltip player_id="91207" first="Tess" last="Masingale"], 6’3", MB, Jesuit High School, Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy

Masingale had a standout sophomore season, competing with the Jesuit High School Crusaders. As a freshman, she was swung up to Varsity but did not see much court time as they had two senior middles, Alyssa Hughes (Gonzaga) and Lauren McCabe (Seattle). However, during the offseason she played for Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy, being the only freshman to make the 16-1 team. Competing at that high of a level all club season, she came back in the fall ready to dominant. She was awarded Metro First Team All-League. During the 6A State Championship, she was awarded Most Valuable Player/Player of the Game and All-Tournament First Team. She also made the 2019 AVCA Phenom List. With her 6’3” stature she is an intimidating presence for her opponents who have to figure out how to get the ball around her strong block. Not only can she put up a great block, but runs an incredibly quick offense, and is a go-to attacker as she is able to consistently put the ball away. Last season she played for Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy on their 16-1 team.

Middle Blocker: [player_tooltip player_id="91209" first="Sophie" last="Scott"], 6’3", MB, Catlin Gabel High School, Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy

Scott had a stellar sophomore season, helping Catlin Gabel with a fourth-place finish for the 3A State tournament. She was awarded Lewis and Clark First Team All-League as well as Second Team All-State. Though it is not often seen with middle blockers, during her high school season she had the opportunity to play six rotations due to her exceptional ball control. She also made the 2019 AVCA Phenom List. An incredibly athletic middle, she touches 10 feet, she has the ability to be quick in transition making herself available to her setters consistently. When given the ball she reaches high and swings fast, making her hard to defend. While she is versatile in what she can hit, most impressive is her slide attack which she can nail down the line with ease. When not on the court, she is on the CEVA Advisory Council as she is passionate about mental health in volleyball players. Last season she played for Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy 16-1.

Setter: [player_tooltip player_id="91208" first="Kate" last="Doorn"], 5’10", S, Summit High School, North Pacific Juniors

Doorn had a solid season for Summit High School helping them finish sixth in the 6A State tournament. She has the ability to quickly release the ball to her attackers which throws off the opponent’s block and uses her height to her advantage when playing the front row. For her play, she was awarded Mountain Valley Honorable Mention All-League. Last season she played for North Pacific Juniors 16-A Bend.

Setter: [player_tooltip player_id="91212" first="Lauren" last="Stemple"], 5’7", S, Central Catholic High School, Excel NW Volleyball Club

Stemple had a breakout season for the Central Catholic Rams, seeing court time running a 6-2 alongside Junior setter [player_tooltip player_id="91131" first="Kealani" last="Rosa"]. As a Freshman, she fulfilled a defensive specialist role. However, she was a calming presence for the Rams this season and used her keen court awareness and consistent play to help them secure a second-place finish at the 6A State tournament. For her play, she was awarded Mt. Hood Second Team All-League. Last season she played for Excel NW 18-1 Rox.
