Very few athletes specialize as a right-side attacker, especially in high school. It’s an awkward attack to get used to if you are right-handed as the set must cross your shoulder and you are responsible for setting the block up against most teams most frequent and powerful attacker: the outside hitter. With only seven right side attackers in the state of Oregon, they really are the few but the mighty. Below are the three right-side attackers in Oregon from the class of 2021 and 2022.

Class of 2021

[player_tooltip player_id="91135" first="Kendall" last="Kaelin"], 6’2", RS, Lake Oswego High School, Dakine Beach, University of Hawaii

Kaelin was a steady force for the Lake Oswego High School Lakers, putting up a huge block on the right side. Training year-round at Dakine Beach in Tacoma she recently committed to the Univesity of Hawaii for sand volleyball. Her beach training translates well to the court as she has a plethora of shots and is able to see holes in the opponent’s defense. This, combined with her whip of an arm, makes her a lethal attacker. For her play, she was awarded Three Rivers Second Team All-League.

[player_tooltip player_id="91165" first="Hannah" last="Stadstad"], 5’11", RS, West Albany High School, North Pacific Juniors

Stadstad had a breakout junior season for the West Albany High School Bulldogs, helping them secure a fifth-place finish in the 5A State tournament. For her play, she was awarded Mid-Willamette First Team All-League and All-State Honorable Mention. Though making the Varsity squad as a freshman, she was able to make her way into the starting lineup this season and made an immediate and lasting impact. With an insanely high vertical and being left-handed, she thrives on the right side, hitting a .273 on the season. This past club season she played for North Pacific Juniors 17-1 National.

Class of 2022

[player_tooltip player_id="91265" first="Makayla" last="Roginski"], 6’0", RS, Gresham High School, Adidas NW Juniors

Roginski, who has been an impact player for the Gresham High School Gophers Varsity squad since a freshman, was a go-to attacker for them last season. For her play, she was awarded Mt. Hood First Team All-League. She is an incredibly powerful attacker with a heavy arm. Being left-handed she shines on the right side, though she can step into the middle blocker position with ease. This past club season she played for Adidas NW Juniors 16-1 Matt.
