We wrap up our weekly rankings update for Indiana by hitting on the largest schools, otherwise known as class 4A. Zach McCrite and his website IndianaPrepVolleyball.com has been instrumental in helping me be able to rank these teams accurately. If you’re interested in Indiana high school volleyball, check his site out.

#5: Munster, 19-2

Last week: NR

Welcome to the top five, Mustangs! Their last loss was to 4A #4 Penn on August 22, and own wins over Brownsburg, La Porte (twice!), 3A #1 Bellmont and 2A #4 Andrean, just to name a few. A home match against 4A McCutcheon on October 3 might be the only time someone can put a blemish on Munster before the sectional. A nearly identical stat line of attacking between Iowa commit [player_tooltip player_id="96843" first="Haley" last="Melby"] (’22, 3.8 kps, .354) and [player_tooltip player_id="102468" first="Lourdes" last="Torres"] (’21, 5-9, OH, 3.6 kps, .354) has been the driving force behind the Mustangs’ success.

#4: Penn, 15-3

Last week: #2

The first of four repeats on this list, the Kingsmen had a tough schedule on Saturday, with losses to New Castle and Fishers. Tuesday, October 6 is the last time Penn has a tough match---3A #4 New Prairie and Valpo commit [player_tooltip player_id="85693" first="Elise" last="Swistek"] await. We welcome back [player_tooltip player_id="96395" first="Lauren" last="Baker"] (’21, 5-10, OH) to the mix and are looking forward to the development of [player_tooltip player_id="109145" first="Cadence" last="McGlothlen"] (’23, 5-6, DS) at libero.

#3: Crown Point, 16-2

Last week: #5

Losing to the aforementioned 4A #4 Penn back on August 30 seems like forever ago. Wins since then include defending 4A state champ New Castle, Avon and Carmel have kept the Bulldogs in the top five. A rematch next Tuesday against La Porte will solidify that ranking even more. [player_tooltip player_id="108372" first="Erica" last="Packwood"] (IU Kokomo commit) has been a great attacking complement to [player_tooltip player_id="102846" first="Kendall" last="Schara"] (’22, 5-8, OH). Erica is #2 in kills, #2 in aces and #3 in digs for CP.

#2: Yorktown, 9-0

Last week: #4

The Tigers have dropped a set to Brebeuf and a set to New Castle. That’s it. Ball Control High School has proven time and again over the years that they can pass anything hit at them. It certainly helps that Munciana is in their backyard, but you have to have the dedication and work ethic to be this good, which Yorktown has in bunches. [player_tooltip player_id="85678" first="Jenny" last="Morey"] (Wright State commit) leads the team in digs, [player_tooltip player_id="85673" first="Ellee" last="Stinson"] (Northwestern commit) is second, and [player_tooltip player_id="85819" first="Rory" last="Powers"] (’22, 5-5, DS) is the third of these three Munciana-trained passers that cannot be served to under any circumstances. YHS (or, more appropriately, BCHS) is relentless, and Fishers on October 6 might be the only team standing in their way to a perfect regular season.

#1: Hamilton Southeastern, 8-0

Last week: #1

I used to raise Siberian Huskies in Buffalo, NY when I was a kid. I know, completely random. Hear me out. A phrase comes to mind about the front-running Royals; "If you’re not the lead dog, the view never changes." This might as well be the HSE mantra, and after a runner-up finish last season to New Castle, they’ve got nothing but the big prize on their minds. A match against rival Fishers on September 29 should be epic, but is the first match after a two-week hiatus. How rusty will they be? I’m sure senior middle [player_tooltip player_id="85697" first="Delaney" last="Garner"] (Harding commit) and sophomore outside [player_tooltip player_id="93482" first="Avery" last="Hobson"] (’23, 5-10, OH) will have something to say about that.
