In this series, we’ll dissect each of the state’s six divisions by analyzing the top teams and the most promising players and what we can expect from them when the balls are finally allowed to fly. As our series comes to an end, we’ll touch on Class 4A.
North Creek
North Creek’s short history in the division isn’t enough to put it right up there with some of the heavyweights in the state, but the Jaguars sent their message out loud last season, when they finished fifth at the State Championships in just their second appearance. The team has a strong generation of players led by rising star Kyleene Filimaua and could be poised for an even deeper run next season.
Their three key players are:
Kyleene Filimaua – Outside Hitter – Sophomore
Kyleene Filimaua is one of the most talented players in the division and she’s the rare case of a student-athlete who started her high school career with a collegiate commitment already secured – in her case to play volleyball and beach volleyball for Florida State. Her sand background makes of the six-footer a great all-around player as she showed in last year’s North Creek’s campaign, when she registered 398 kills and 311 digs on her way to be an All-State first-team member on her freshman season.
Isabella Moon – Libero/Defensive Specialist – Sophomore
Filimaua joined North Creek in great company as while she became the team’s main offensive piece fellow freshman Isabella Moon took care of the Jaguars’ defensive duties with the same level of success, besides being a capable setter when needed. The 5’4” prospect covers near the entirety of the team’s court when serve receiving and is a true digging machine, having upped 74 balls during last year’s State Championship, a performance that earned her a spot in the All-State second team.

North Creek’s biggest challenge next season will be replacing star setter Jenna Howard, who graduated after receiving an All-State first-team nod last year. The Jaguars have a capable candidate already on their roster as co-captain Emmi Foltz Emmi Foltz 5'10" | S North Creek | 2021 State WA displayed great touch and a solid setting game with 33 assists during the State Championship.
