As I’ve said time and again, this process is not perfect. We occasionally miss great prospects simply because we can’t be everywhere. This is not a hard-in-stone list, because there are probably more that we haven’t had a chance to see yet. That being said, the first team all-state lists have been released by the Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association, and we’d like to give a little more attention to the unranked.

[player_tooltip player_id="116475" first="Sophie" last="Krull"], 5-8, OH, Bellmont

Although already a champion on the local youth beach circuit here, Sophie is known for her winning and relentless attitude indoors, as Bellmont spent a good portion of the 2020 fall season as #1 in 3A, and finished the 2019 season with the state’s runner-up trophy. Her First Team mention on the 3A list does not go unnoticed, and her all-around game is a great set of tools that can transfer to both the indoor and outdoor games.

[player_tooltip player_id="116472" first="Mallory" last="Ramsey"], 5-6, DS, Silver Creek

The starting libero for SC during their semi state run is already playing outstanding ball for KIVA, and is the #1 reason for the Dragon’s success, considering their lack of size. She’s deadly from behind the service line, and has a stranglehold on the team lead for digs per set (almost 5!). She’s also #2 in aces by mere percentage points. A KIVA trained DS? Yes, please.

[player_tooltip player_id="116476" first="Mariah" last="Wyatt"], 5-11, MB, Wabash

She’s spent time on a regional club (Grant County VBC) and a more well-traveled club (Impact), so the training has been intermittent, but her athleticism has been second to none at Wabash. This converted basketball player was the primary attacker and defender at the net for Wabash, as her 3+ kills per set and 1+ blocks per set were both tops for the Apaches this past fall.

[player_tooltip player_id="116474" first="Lilly" last="Powers"], 5-8, S/DS, Lafayette Central Catholic

In and out of the top five rankings for 1A, this honor is Lilly’s THIRD STRAIGHT all-state honor, so she’s clearly doing something right. Miss Powers, an Academy-trained player, spent time in a 6-2 as a setter, but can play DS as well in multiple spots. The unfortunate part of Lilly’s season came right before the state tournament; LCC had to withdraw due to COVID quarantines. This is a kid hungry to play somewhere, and can do so at a high level.
