Moving right along with our “under the radar” series, we talk about this year's sophomores and what impact they can bring to the table. Today's edition covers the outsides and right sides that can be anything from a three-rotation attacking option to a full-time, six-rotation outside hitting position for any level of play. Here are five of them from around the state that should be seeing more publicity but don't, for whatever reason.

With a full capability to play either pin at the next level, Sophie is a compact, aggressive and strong attacker that can do a little of everything on the volleyball court. Currently, she's dominating unsuspecting blockers as a right side attacker, and is taking advantage of any team with a lack of discipline on defense at the net. Currently residing on the 16 Black (read: 16-2) squad at Circle, she's easily a 1s player in any other program, and will make waves on the recruiting trail for the remainder of the club season, including at GJNCs right here in Indy this summer.

From a family of volleyballers, Jada is a springy, active and tougher-than-she-looks outside that can take over a match when you let her. When passing, she distributes a solid, 2+ pass to her setter, keeping every option open on the offense. When attacking, she can whip out a tough beach shot or hammer away at unsuspecting blocks not familiar with how heavy Jada hits. The under-the-radar part about her is her size, which by no means is something to judge her on. Realistically, Miss Cripe will be a steal for a program looking for a full-time outside that can also step in as a three-rotation DS at the next level.

With size to burn and an ability to make setters look better because of her ability to terminate, Brooklyn will be a nice size addition to any program looking for a three-rotation pin attacker. She's under-the-radar for a simple reason—-she's from Indiana and plays club in Illinois. Anyone crossing state lines to get club training might not get as much “pub” as they should, but Miss Gluth should be the exception to that unwritten rule. Boone Grove is not exactly a “blue blood” volleyball program, so her emergence as a solid recruit in this class is a nice surprise to have.

Known for her other-world athleticism, Aubriana can do just about every skill well on the volleyball court AND the softball diamond. Being as springy as she is, she's best used on the right side, where she can out-quick and out jump any and all opponents that aren't ready for her. Willing to play wherever you need her to, she spent her most recent showcase doing everything any attacker can do—-and more. When you're THIS athletic, doing everything is an easy task.

To set in the back row and attack from the front row, you have to do well in both. In Josie's case, she's THAT much more marketable for a school looking for that hybrid athlete that shouldn't be removed from the floor because of that well-rounded skill set. I wouldn't be surprised if she was an accomplished beach attacker, as her controlled attacking style minimizes errors and finds holes and gaps in the defense. This is an article about attackers, but her setting is above average for her hybrid nature.
