Eight teams started their club seasons in Leawood on December 19. The MAVS 816, 18-16 club teams hosted the eight-team scrimmage.

Here is a look at five players from the eight clubs that have committed to play for Division II programs in 2021 and began fine-tuning their games in the club season.

OH, [player_tooltip player_id="105511" first="Mallorie" last="Koehn"], 5’11”, Maize, (Central Oklahoma)– Koehn an athletic hitter and who can play both front and back rows. She plays for Fight Club 18-1 and she had a solid day in the first club matches of the season. She will be a player that Central Oklahoma can build around.

S, [player_tooltip player_id="105506" first="Jayden" last="Jackson"], 5’9”, Augusta, (Pittsburg State) – Jackson is a really talented setter. I did not have the chance to see the Augusta senior play during the 2020 high school season. I missed out. Jackson also plays for Fight Club 18-1 and she surrounded by solid hitters to distribute the ball to. She left a couple of middle sets low in her opening match but had a solid day in her club season debut.

MH, Bonnie Hegarty, 5’11”, Manhattan (Missouri Southern) – Hegarty was another player I missed during the regular season as Manhattan restricted attendance at its home matches due to COVID-19. Hagerty plays for Pohaku 18-1. She has a long reach and is explosive at the net. Hegarty could shine playing in the MIAA.

OH, [player_tooltip player_id="105503" first="Ella" last="Martin"], 5’10”, Bishop Miege (Colorado School of Mines) – Martin is another player who plays for Pohaku 18-1. The Bishop Miege senior is taking her game to Golden, Colorado to play at the Colorado School of Mines. She is a solid two-way player who finished with 235 digs and 231 kills in her senior season.

MH, Sienna King, 6’0”, Blue Valley (Emporia State) – King was another player I saw for the first time. She is a powerful young lady who hits and blocks well. King plays for the host MAVS 816 18-1 team. She will be a solid addition to Bing Xu’s Emporia State Hornet squad.
