As we tour the state of Oregon, we will be making many stops throughout this great State. We will be stopping by cities big and small, highlighting the best athletes in those places. Third stop: Bend! Here are the top five setters:

2021
[caption id="attachment_128279" align="alignleft" width="150"] Photo: OSAA[/caption]
[player_tooltip player_id="91132" first="Sasha" last="Stringer"], 5’8", S/RS, Summit High School

Stringer had another dominant season with the Summit High School Storm, helping them finish sixth in the 6A State tournament. On varsity since her freshman year, she has become a difference-maker the past two seasons for the Storm. Their primary setter, she ran both a 6-2, alongside 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="91208" first="Kate" last="Doorn"], and a 5-1. For her play, she was awarded Mountain Valley Second Team All-League both her sophomore and junior year. While she played club for North Pacific Juniors 16-A team as a sophomore, she did not play club last season and will not be playing club this upcoming season. She will be playing for the Storm whenever high school season happens.
[caption id="attachment_128281" align="alignleft" width="150"] Photo: NPJ[/caption]
[player_tooltip player_id="91145" first="Megan" last="Bushnell"], 5’11", S/RS, Bend High School, North Pacific Juniors, Fairleigh Dickinson University

Bushnell had another solid season with the Bend High School Lava Bears, helping them finish 13th in the 6A State tournament. A varsity starter since her freshman year, she has run a 5-1 offense for the Lava Bears, racking up 1,794 assists across three seasons. As a freshman, she was awarded Intermountain First Team All-League and helped the Lava Bears secure a 5A State championship. Both her sophomore and junior seasons, she was awarded Mountain Valley First Team All-League. She also was awarded Honorable Mention All-State both her sophomore and junior year. Bushnell uses her quick release to keep her sets consistent for her teammates. Last club season she played for North Pacific Juniors 18-A team, running 5-1, and will be back to NPJ for this upcoming club season.

She recently committed to play volleyball at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
[caption id="attachment_128283" align="alignleft" width="150"] Photo: OSAA[/caption]
[player_tooltip player_id="91148" first="Ellie" last="Rush"], 5’5", S, Sisters High School, Central Oregon Volleyball Club

Rush had another stellar season for the Sisters High School Outlaws, helping them finish first in the Oregon West league and fourth in the 4A State tournament. A varsity starter since her freshman season, she has run both a 6-2 and 5-1 offense. For her play, she was awarded Oregon West Honorable Mention as a sophomore and Oregon West First Team All-League and Honorable Mention 4A All-State. Rush does a very good job running the offense with confidence and a great sense of ease. She also plays both basketball and tennis for the Outlaws. For the past two club seasons, she has played for Central Oregon Volleyball Club 18-1 and will be returning to COVC for this upcoming club season.

2022
[caption id="attachment_101453" align="alignleft" width="150"] Photo: OSAA[/caption]
[player_tooltip player_id="91208" first="Kate" last="Doorn"], 5’10", S/RS, Summit High School, North Pacific Juniors, University of Idaho

Doorn had a breakout season for the Summit High School Storm, helping them finish sixth in the 6A State tournament. As a freshman, she was on the junior varsity roster but was pulled up to the varsity team mid-season. As a sophomore, she ran a 6-2 alongside 2021 [player_tooltip player_id="91132" first="Sasha" last="Stringer"] and played all around, attacking when in the front row. For her play, she was awarded Mountain Valley Honorable Mention All-League. Doorn has great hand strength and the ability to quickly release the ball to her attackers. She uses her height to her advantage when playing the front row and puts up a very strong block. Last club season she played for North Pacific Juniors 16-A Bend and will be returning to NPJ for the upcoming club season.

Doorn recently committed to play for the University of Idaho.

2023
[caption id="attachment_128284" align="alignleft" width="150"] Photo: NPJ[/caption]
[player_tooltip player_id="91341" first="Taylor" last="Clark"], 5’8", S, Bend High School, North Pacific Juniors

Clark was one of four freshmen on the junior varsity team for the Bend High School Lava Bears. A natural leader, the setter role is a great fit for Clark. She has been a team captain for three seasons. She is a coachable athlete and has shown steady improvement over the last season. Last club season she played for North Pacific Juniors 15-A Bend and will be returning to NPJ for the upcoming club season.
