<p>Scouting is partly looking forward and partly looking back. Here is a look at five players from the Class 1A ranks who were among the state leaders in kills.</p>
<p>All five of these student-athletes will be heading into their senior seasons next fall and are members of the 2022 recruiting class.</p>
<p><strong>MH, Darby Smith, 5’10”, St. John –</strong> Smith had a huge junior season for the Tigers. She finished the season with 452 kills. She has a nice swing and at five-foot Smith also has a big reach. The St. John middle also added 167 blocks to put her among state leaders in that category as well.</p>
<p><strong>OH, [player_tooltip player_id="123120" first="Livia" last="Schultz"], 5’10”, Wheatland-Grinnell</strong> – Shultz is a solid six-rotation player who is a solid college prospect. She amassed 356 kills and 357 digs in her junior season for the Thunderhawks. Wheatland-Grinnell could be an early state favorite for the 2021 season.</p>
<p><strong>OH, [player_tooltip player_id="123156" first="Lily" last="Boughfman"], 6’2”, Little River </strong>– Boughfman is a two-sport star for the Little River Redskins. She is one of the top-ranked players in the class of 2021 and has helped lead the Redskins basketball team on a 12-game win streak heading into Sub State play. Boughfman finisher her junior season with 323 kills and added 64 aces.</p>
<p><strong>OH, [player_tooltip player_id="123169" first="Kassie" last="Miller"], 5’6”, Golden Plains –</strong> Miller finished with 221 kills for the Bulldogs in 2020. She can also set and is a solid defensive player. Her versatility will help ger possible recruitment.</p>
<p><strong>MH, [player_tooltip player_id="123129" first="Madison" last="Bruna"], 5’10”, Hanover –</strong> Bruna plays a key leadership role for the Hanover Wildcats. She finished her junior season with a total of 204 kills and was also a state leader in blocks with 102. The tall and talented middle of the court star will look to improve on those numbers in her senior campaign.</p>
