It can be difficult for sophomores to receive significant playing time for 5A programs, but here are four members of the Class of 2023 who had earned enough playing time to rank among assist leaders in 2020.

[player_tooltip player_id="122215" first="Kaylee" last="Lively"], 5’7”, Maize – Lively can set and play defensive specialist. The Maize sophomore finished with 294 assists in 2020. Maize will be looking to earn a berth to the 5A State Tournament and the Eagles have a solid Class of 2023 to help them get there.

[player_tooltip player_id="120022" first="Gracie" last="Kaumeyer"], 5’9”, Maize – Kaumeyer can set and play right-side hitter. She amassed 280 assists during her sophomore season. It will be interesting to see if Maize splits the setting position between Lively and Kaumeyer if one steps up to become the primary setter.

[player_tooltip player_id="120034" first="Brailee" last="Bogle"], 6’0”, Wichita Northwest – Bogle has a high ceiling and could be one of the top setters in Class 5A regardless of class. She finished with 263 assists for the Grizzlies in 2020. She communicates well with her teammates and does a nice job tipping the ball.

Wren Vancleave, 5’9”, Bonner Springs – Vancleave can set and play right-side. The Bonner Springs talent finished with 139 assists in her sophomore season. She is a well-rounded athlete who also had 224 digs and 68 kills.
