PrepDig’s Selections for Mountain Valley All-League Teams

In a typical season, during a non-COVID-19 year, at the end of the fall season, all-league teams would be announced for each conference in 6A. However, certain leagues stayed away from all-league voting given the uniqueness of the season. PrepDig would still like to recognize the athletes that were top performers for their team, so with the help of coaches’ insight, here are our selections for the Mountain Valley all-league teams, as well as the Mountain Valley Conference Co-Players of the Year.

CO-PLAYER OF THE YEAR

When picking the Player of the Year for the Mountain Valley Conference, two names kept popping up, Megan Bushnell Megan Bushnell 5'11" | S Bend Senior | 2021 State OR and Laila Leaks Laila Leaks 5'10" | S South Salem | 2022 State OR . After watching film and speaking to coaches, it is clear why these two players were chosen as Mountain Valley Co-Players of the Year.

2021 Megan Bushnell Megan Bushnell 5'11" | S Bend Senior | 2021 State OR , 5’11", S/RS, Bend Senior High School, North Pacific Juniors, Fairleigh Dickinson University

Bushnell has made a lasting mark in the Bend High School Lavabears program as a four-year Varsity starter. Finishing out her career with over 2,000 assists, she racked up 277 of them in this shortened season. She also had four service aces, 10 solo blocks, 20 kills, and 67 digs on the season. More impressive than her stats, however, is her work ethic, leadership, and love of the game. Her coach Kristin Cooper had this to say about Bushnell, "Megan loves the games, works hard on and off the court, and is a leader in every way...The program is going to greatly miss her presence on the court." After graduating from Bend in the spring, Bushnell will be heading to play collegiate volleyball at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

2022 Laila Leaks Laila Leaks 5'10" | S South Salem | 2022 State OR , 5’10", S/RS, South Salem High School, North Pacific Juniors

Leaks is making waves as the first non-senior Player of the Year selection for PrepDig, but upon watching her compete, it was a no-brainer that she should be given this honor. She takes her role as a setter seriously and truly runs the floor as the quarterback of the court should. Her coach Matthew Leichty attributes her set locations, consistency, and stellar decision-making as a major reason the South Salem High School Saxons went undefeated, only dropping three sets this season. Setting a 5-1 for the team she posted 376 assists for the Saxons. Leaks is deadly on the service line, totaling up 36 aces out of 216 attempts. Playing all-around, she is a force for opponents when blocking, with 3 solo blocks, and 22 block assists. She also racked up 14 kills and 100 digs.
