In a typical season, during a non-COVID-19 year, at the end of the fall season, all-league teams would be announced for each conference in 6A. However, certain leagues stayed away from all-league voting given the uniqueness of the season. PrepDig would still like to recognize the athletes that were top performers for their team, so with the help of coaches’ insight, here are our selections for the Portland Interscholastic all-league teams, as well as the Portland Interscholastic League Player of the Year.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

2021 [player_tooltip player_id="91120" first="Jasmine" last="Sells"], 5’11", OH Lincoln High School, Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy, Washington University St. Louis

When watching Sells play you can see her sheer athleticism shine through, a bouncy outside hitter with a keen eye for defense, but can also step into the middle or to set, she is a complete volleyball player. However, when looking at someone to be Player of the Year for the PIL, more than the complete athlete was needed. Sells checked off all of those boxes, and more. Sells is a leader on and off the court, and supports her teammates when they need it most. A positive and infectious presence on the court, she is constantly hyping her teammates up, helping them play at their best. Sells showed up for every match this season ready to give 110%, a season that the Cardinals went 14-0 on. A crucial part of their line-up and key to their success she led the team in kills as their six rotation outside attacker. Her coach Jeannell Franceschi had this to say about Sells, "Jasmine is loved by her team, and truly a leader worth following. Jasmine is not just a leader on the court... She leads off the court and supports her team in ways that only a true leader could do. Jasmine is humble and always eager to learn. Even though she had committed to a university, she never stopped putting in the time to not only be great in her skills/training but also made sure to bring her teammates with her." Volleyball aside, she excels in the classroom and is at the top of her class at Lincoln High School. Balancing IB testing, scholarship essays, homework, club, and high school volleyball, coaching a 12U club team, and volunteering in her community, Sells is the total package.
