The unknown entity that is Fishers High School is one of the more intriguing storylines of this coming fall. They graduated eight, including multiple Division I prospects, and there are multiple high-level prospects getting a year older. Yet the identity of this team is different. Instead of the strengths coming from the pins, youth steps in. Here’s my first view of what Fishers has to offer this fall.

’23, [player_tooltip player_id="85826" first="Ava" last="Vickers"], 6-0 MB

Easily the most college-ready, Ava is a long and fast middle that is a nightmare for opponents off of one foot. She goes pin-to-pin with the best of them, and is smart with her shots when the set is less than perfect. Additionally, she’s relentless. Many middles in this particular class fade as the match continues. Ava gets stronger, and looks to terminate even more.

’22, [player_tooltip player_id="85745" first="Samantha" last="Perdue"], 5-7 DS/L

The anchor to all of this rising youth will be the Tigers’ senior libero. She is in control, she runs serve receive, she takes every second ball the setter can’t get, and she’s in charge defensively. Add to it that Miss Perdue is lethal from beyond the service line, and it will be plain to see that she’s the libero most colleges covet.

’23, Margo Hernandez, 5-9 S

One of the more refined setters in this class, Margo runs a fast offense with accuracy that is rarely seen at this level. Going fast is one thing, but Margo finds matchup issues quickly and can put her hitters in a better situation on the attack. Her hands are high and quick, her footwork is even more so, and she’s a coach on the floor. Oh, and did I mention that she’s a setter that actually plays defense? Not much more you could possibly ask from a setter.

’24, Lucy Kay, 6-0 MB

Prior to last Thursday, I had only heard of Lucy, but never saw her in action. Part of the rising youth at Fishers, Miss Kay is a solid M2 whose length plays taller than her six foot frame would allow. Quiet and unassuming, Lucy is also capable of playing on the right pin, which would be a nice fill-in for yet another position that graduated. She’s great off of two feet, can go from pin to pin quickly, and is rarely fooled. Not too many middles in this class that I can make that previous statement about, and Lucy’s stock is rising. Stay tuned.

’23, Kelsey Olivadoti, 6-0 RS

On this day, Kelsey played the right pin, and was a solid blocker and high attacker. She might need a few more reps and start her approach sooner with Miss Hernandez running the offense, but that will come with time and repetition. I like the high attack, her fearless nature, and the fact that her size is yet another example of the solid replacements for the eight that graduated in May.
