IHSAA 2A Preview: #9 Hammond Bishop Noll
<p>The 17-14 finish by the Warriors from WAY up north may not have been the finish they wanted, but when you play the tough schedule that they play, you understand why. The IHSAA does not seed sectionals; every postseason is a blind draw. I, for one, always scheduled as tough as I could, since every team needs that pressure to deal with October and (hopefully) November. That being said, Bishop Noll graduated five, and in order to get past Andrean in their own sectional, they need to have solid replacements rising. Here’s who the Warriors have coming back.</p>
<p><strong>’24, Isabella Garcia, 5-9 MB/RS</strong></p>
<p>Although Miss Garcia lacks the traditional size a middle or right side might need, her athleticism more than makes up for it. She’ll be the top returning attacker and top blocker for a younger-than-average squad, and this GCVC-trained kid might be leaned upon to do more than your average big.</p>
<p><strong>’23, [player_tooltip player_id="148601" first="Hannah" last="Evensen"], 5-7 DS/L</strong></p>
<p>This is the left back defender you’re looking for. A libero through and through, Miss Evensen has proven as such at Epic United across the border in Illinois for their 16-1 squad this past spring. I like her footwork, I like her ability to hit the floor if needed, and she bombs away from behind the service line. In order for this young team to have a successful season, you need an exceptional first contact, and Hannah should be responsible for half the court in serve receive. </p>
<p><strong>’22, Taylor Dafnis, 5-5 S</strong></p>
<p>I list Taylor here as a guess; the Warriors ran a 6-2 last season with two seniors at the helm. Obviously, I’m not the coach, so I can only assume that senior leadership is going to be needed for this team to go far. However, with athleticism high on the list of every team up north, Taylor will be a nice addition if needed.</p>
