Continue ReadingThis week is the week that will bring so much joy to many volleyball coaches and players across the great State of Texas. Day 1. Last year the preseason was cut short due to “It That Shall Not Be Named”. This year we are able to have a full tryout and pre/regular volleyball school season. We are looking forward to seeing everyone back in action on the court. We will be highlighting a few teams that have a chance to do something very special this year if it all works out. Today we bring our attention to Wimberley High School out of District 28-4A.
The Lady Texans are coming off of a season in which they reached the State Finals for the first time since 2011. They went 30-5 overall last year and took first place in their district by going undefeated at 8-0. They only lost a few of their key contributor to last year’s squad and are returning the rest of a great roster that lost to Decatur in the State Championship. We are watching them very closely so far in the preseason and they are off to a great start. They are our pick to go all the way due to some amazing players and coaches. Let’s meet a few of the players that will help them with their unfinished business.
Paige Crawford [2022] 5-11 Outside (HS: Wimberley/Club: San Antonio Juniors /Verbal: Wake Forest)
Paige is currently unranked in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings but she has been on our watch list and her ranking will be changed this week when I update the rankings. She was a huge reason for their 30-5 overall record along with the undefeated 8-0 district record as she was named the MVP of district 28-4A as a junior. She is their All-Everything player and she looks unstoppable so far early this season. We know she is hungry coming off of the berth in the state finals last year. She will play club for San Antonio Juniors and their awesome staff. Miss Crawford has great length and can bring the heat with the best of them in her grad class across the state. The young lady is already verbally committed to playing volleyball at Wake Forest next year and is ready for a hero’s send off for her senior season. Stay tuned to see where she falls on the rankings and if she can repeat the dominance in her district again.
Cameren Davis [2022] 6-0 Middle (HS: Wimberley/Club: United Volleyball/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Cameren is currently unrankedin the 2022 Class but she has been on our watch list and could break into the rankings soon if she keeps up the great work on the court. She is a fantastic middle for Wimberley High School and plays club for United Volleyball. Cam earned 2nd team All District with her phenomenal play in the middle for the Lady Texans last season and is poised to help lead the Lady Texans to another state title run. She had a breakout year last season as she was able to tally 137 kills on a .208 hitting percentage. She also had 48 blocks and 2 aces. If Wimberley is going to dominate their district again, they will need another solid season from Miss Davis. We are excited to watch her senior season very closely.
Layla Dubuisson [2022] 6-0 Right Side/Middle (HS: Wimberley/Club: Force/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Layla is currently an unranked prospect according to our Prep Dig State Rankings in the class of 2022. She plays at Wimberley High School and club for Force. Layla earned 2nd team All District due to her great play on the court for the Lady Texans last season and is poised to help lead the Lady Texans to another state title run. She had a breakout year last season as she was able to tally 111 kills on a .145 hitting percentage. She also had 31 blocks to help the team’s defense. She is great at making shots to score in more ways than just swinging hard. She has great versatility also as she can hit both quick tempo and high tempo sets for her team. We are excited to cover her senior season as Wimberley looks to avenge their loss in the State Championship.
We like them due to their senior leadership. It is going to be now or never for this program as they are a senior laden group. They had the taste of what it takes to make a solid run last year and so far this season, they are off to a great start. There aren’t many teams that will give them a challenge until the State Playoffs so sit back and bring some popcorn to watch the show from the Lady Texans. We will be watching very closely.
