If you like watching college-bound talent that is sure to make an impact at the next level, then this was the event for you.

This feature is going to mention some players that we’ve been privileged to watch for a few years now. They’ve made their mark at the prep level, put up gaudy numbers, and have committed to universities that will help them succeed. Their recruiting journies are over, but they still have plenty of unfinished business in the high school game.

Let’s look at some committed outside hitters that owned the spotlight at last weekend’s LPS Volleyball Classic.

[player_tooltip player_id="58783" first="Skylar" last="McCune"] - 5’8 OH - Gretna [Creighton]

It’s just nice to see McCune back on the floor for Gretna. After sitting out with an injury for the entire 2020 campaign, the Creighton commit has come back with a vengeance. She has the all-around skills that coaches covet and is a vocal leader for her team. McCune will undoubtedly leave her mark on the Dragons program before she heads up the road to represent the Bluejays.

[player_tooltip player_id="58786" first="Kylie" last="Weeks"] - 5’7 OH - Elkhorn South [Arkansas]

Weeks just has a knack for bringing excitement to the floor. She’s never been deterred by her height, and she brings extraordinary ball control skills that helped land her at Arkansas. For Elkhorn South, Weeks has been that steady playmaker that can hammer a ball down and fire up her teammates. She’ll be looking for one more title to close out her career.

[player_tooltip player_id="58782" first="Shaylee" last="Myers"] - 6’0 OH - Lincoln Southwest [Fresno State]

Myers is Lincoln Southwest’s version of “instant offense.” It’s been that way for a while. She can terminate on a high ball, a quick tempo set, or anything in between. Her floor defense is an underrated aspect of her game and will surely suit her well at the next level. Myers will take her talents out west to Fresno State and has a great shot at finding early collegiate success.

[player_tooltip player_id="58785" first="Kealy" last="Kiviniemi"] - 5’11 OH/RS - Bellevue West [Washburn]

Kiviniemi has stepped up to assume a leading role in the Bellevue West offense this season. The Thunderbirds find creative ways to feed her the ball in different spots throughout the match. It makes sense, too, because Kiviniemi is versatile enough to play almost any frontcourt position. She will clearly be a worthy addition to the Washburn lineup.

[player_tooltip player_id="37542" first="Ella" last="Waters"] - 6’3 OH - Norris [Washburn]

We’re going to stick with another future Washburn athlete for this next one, too. Waters was one of the biggest pin hitting threats at the LPS Classic. She could simply hit over the block when she was in rhythm, and she also provided some impenetrable defense at the net. This veteran attacker plays a physical game that will grant her plenty of opportunities at the collegiate level.

[player_tooltip player_id="58800" first="Taylor" last="Bunjer"] - 5’11 OH - Elkhorn [Wayne State]

Bunjer’s steady development over her prep career has been fun to watch. She’s played in a lot of high-level events by now, and the LPS Classic was another to add to the list. This springy outside hitter plays with a fearless attitude that will be welcomed at Wayne State.
