We are keeping the previews and predictions coming moving to class 4A, starting with our Topeka Hayden region. We will continue with the format we used for Class 5A.

Altamont-Labette County Site (1) Altamont-Labette (8) Independence (9) Wamego (16) Iola (17) Topeka Hayden

The top overall seed will be Altamont-Labette County with a 36-3 record

Key wins: St. Mary’s-Colgan

Key players: [player_tooltip player_id="123119" first="Anna" last="Dean"], Lauren Forbes, Ava Alloway, [player_tooltip player_id="120037" first="Shelbi" last="Wilson"]

Wamego (16-19)

Key wins: Louisburg

Key players: [player_tooltip player_id="123176" first="Paige" last="Donnelly"], Avrie Wilson, Reese Springer, Ryann Alderson, Caroline Donahue

Iola (7-24)

Topeka Hayden (6-26)

Key wins: Topeka West

Key players: N/A

Labette is the clear-cut team to me in the substate. They get the winner of the play-in between Iola and Hayden. Hayden is down this year compared to years past. We like Wamego in the other match to get to the final. Labette heads to state, taking down Wamego.

Baldwin site (2) Baldwin (7) Louisburg (10) Parsons (15) Chanute (16) Coffeyville-Field Kindley

Baldwin (26-4) after a strong fall gets number 2 seed

Key wins: Bonner Springs, Gardner-Edgerton

Key players: Fisayo Afonja, Chaney Barth, Alyssa Reichard, Zoey Latessa, Sophie Baker

Louisburg (19-16)

Parsons (16-22)

Key wins: Independence

Key players: N/A

Chanute (8-23)

Key wins: Parsons

Key players: Kierney Follmer, Kelsey Haviland

Coffeyville-Field Kindley (4-27)

Key wins: Yates Center

Key players: Jaeden Cook, Amyah Kendrex-Moore, Riley Wentjen, Hope Hall

Baldwin is the team to beat in this bracket and a serious contender for a state title. They have a solid roster of players and have played the schedule to prepare them for a two-week run. We like Louisburg over Parsons in the other match-up. Baldwin over Parsons in a sweep.

Fort Scott Site (3) Fort Scott (6) Ottawa (11) Eudora (14) Holton

3rd seed Fort Scott (26-8) looks to take the next step

Key wins: Parsons

Key players: Teryn Farley, Kenzie Murphy, Abby Altic, Raveyn Kegler

Ottawa (18-16)

Key wins: Louisburg, DeSoto

Key players: Emery Keebaugh, Sofia Ficken, Aleah Gollier, Emma Stottlemire, [player_tooltip player_id="123103" first="Kirsten" last="Evans"]

Eudora (14-20)

Key wins: Bonner Springs, Great Bend

Key players: [player_tooltip player_id="105684" first="Harper" last="Schreiner"], Sophia Ewy, [player_tooltip player_id="123166" first="Emma" last="Durr"]

Holton (10-23)

Key wins: Wamego

Key players: Sadie Walker, Timber Wilson, Macey Patch, Cora Miller, Macey Gross

We like Fort Scott over Holton and Ottawa taking down Eudora. Fort Scott enters substate with 26 wins, which is impressive. While Ottawa has 18 of their own, they do own 16 defeats. They are winners of 9 of their last 10 and their strength of schedule has a slight edge. In one of our first upset picks of the substate action, we will roll with Ottawa taking down 3rd seeded Fort Scott.

Atchison Site (4) Atchison (5) Paola (12) Tonganoxie (13) Bishop Miege

Atchison (20-11) grabs the 4th and final seed

Key wins: Doniphan West

Key players: [player_tooltip player_id="123109" first="Katy" last="Harris"], Madi Bruce, Rayne Berkhalter

Paola (22-14)

Key wins: Piper, Tonganoxie

Key players: N/A

Tonganoxie (14-22)

Key wins: Wamego, Atchison

Key players: Lucy Reike, Amanda Cline, Bailey Poje, Kylie Vandervoort, Kasia Baldock

Bishop Miege (12-23)

Key wins: Louisburg, Maize South

Key players: Lauren Lopez, [player_tooltip player_id="152166" first="Ali" last="Olson"], Allie Burns, [player_tooltip player_id="119689" first="Ava" last="Martin"]

We will throw records out the window here. Bishop Miege comes in as the 13th seed but if you take a look at their schedule, it’s filled with 5A and 6A programs. You like the fact Atchison picked up 20 wins but they do play in the very weak KCAL. Miege has players with state experience and we expect them to knock off Atchinson. In the second contest, look for Paola to beat Tonganoxie. Bishop Miege, the lowest seed advancing to the state tournament.
