We move on to Class 5A preview and predictions. I am going to change the format up some and give less narrative. Between trying to get through Kansas and most of Missouri in a two-day span force the change. Here is our look at the Bonner Springs sites.

Lansing Site (1) Lansing (8) Shawnee Heights (9) Schlagle (16) Leavenworth (17) Turner

Lansing will take down the winner of the play-in match. Shawnee Heights over Schlagle. Lansing returns to state with a sweep of Shawnee Heights behind the good passing, setting, and tremendous scoring options in the middle and on the pins.

St. Thomas Aquinas won’t have much difficulty in this substate and will serve as a tune-up for state. Washington over Highland Park, Aquinas over Washington. The other match-up is more intriguing. Sumner has the record advantage, Bonner has played better competition. Due to this fact, we will go with Bonner to get the win but their season will end at St Thomas Aquinas.

Spring Hill Site (3) Spring Hill (8) Basehor-Linwood (11) DeSoto (14) Blue Valley Southwest

Key players: N/A

The final match should be a good one. We have Spring Hill and Basehor-Linwood getting past their opening opponents. These two teams have faced off with Basehor getting the best of Spring Hill. We believe the Frakes sisters will be too much to handle and add in home-court advantage, we go with Spring Hill.

This site has what I feel is the most anticipated match-up of the weekend out of this region. Both Mill Valley and St. James will win their first matches and face off for a trip to the state tournament. Last year, St. James had to play St. Thomas Aquinas for that opportunity and is eager to make a return trip. These two teams are evenly matched on paper. They are separated by one slot in the seedings for a reason. In the previous time they faced this year, St. James walked away with the win. We expect them to do it again, St. James over Mill Valley on Mill Valley’s home court.
